Hey

I have been on these forums for a fair while now as a Guitarist, and I am now looking to take up Drums; but I'm not too sure what to look for in a kit.

My budget is around £300, but I may be willing to go to £350.

I've decided that eBay would probably be my best bet, as I probably won't be able to get a decent new kid for the price I stated.

So what should I be looking for? I would like to have 3 symbols (Crash, Ride and Hi-Hat) but i'm not too sure if that will cost too much.

Please help :(

well first things first its cymbals not symbols (god how many times) you could get a CB kit with paiste 101 cymbals (hats, ride crash) for 300 thats isnt that bad of a deal acctualy

www.adcdrums.co.uk thats where that CB kit is once you stick new heads on it should be fine

I think he's trying to be funny.
You might be able to catch a good deal on eBay where you get the Cymbals with the set-up.
Remember Cymbals not Symbals

no i wernt, i think if he wants a brand new kit with cymbals thats his best bit the cymbals are better than normal and well the CB kit isnt THAT bad.....it would be his first kit so i say go for it......

The CB looks fine; everything that i'm looking for imo.

I dont really need an Uber kit to start with, just the standard set up, and then prehaps I can upgrade it when I have enough money.

Or do CB kits really suck that much?

They aren't great but if you're just beginning and don't know if you want to play a lot its fine

Well, I've been playing guitar for about 3 years now, and I also play Bass, so I do have dedication to playing an instrument.

I just want a nice starter kit; nothing amazing, can I expect this out of CB?

EDIT: Just noticed the Price of the Mapex V's

http://www.adcdrums.co.uk/prodtype.asp?PT_ID=88&strPageHistory=cat

At the bottom of the page. I would be willing to spend an extra £50 if I got noticably better quality.

yeah i got both my son and duaghter on ebay for under 300$. And i find them just as good as new ones, except they smell a little worse. but that goes away after a good washing.

the CB is a better deal out of the V and the CB as you get paiste 101 cymbals with the CB which are better than factory kit cymbals,

still go for the CB i reckon :thumb:

I will be checking eBay to see what there is, but so far I seem to be swinging towards the CB.

Are those Paiste Cymbals that are included good?

Be prepared for a LONG TERM commitment.

Drums take years and years to become decent at. Guitar is very easy, and picked up very fast to a decent level of proficiency.

It's prob 10x worse for drums.

Best bet, a good private instructor. You might just want to not even both with a kit at first. Pair of sticks and practice pad is all you'll need for awhile anyway. That is if you want to actually learn to play drums...

If you want to just mess around or whatever, then just buy a cheap kit some cymbals and have at it.

whats the money in usd? Im pretty sure if you wanted something decent youd have to go used on a drum kit, check ebay loads of deals there, and cymbals are something you need to check yourself, depending on what tone and genre your playing... Sabians Zildj and Paiste make nice starting sets. Unlike most people here I played on the zxt's on my friend and they held there own for metal and hxc music. Never played paiste but Ive heard decent things about it and well im not a sabian man, dont like any of the tones sept The higher end hats are pretty nice.

I also want to add the cb kit you all mentioned is deffnitly not bad once you get rid of the stock heads. but that will cost atleast a 100 bucks just for new batters and resos assuming you dont buy hydros which are like 16 a pop on batters. W/e you do. Get an emad for your bass batter =) Turns any bass drum into a good piece of work.

I am aware that drums are much harder long term than Guitar, but I feel this is something that I'd really enjoy doing.

I did try to learn drums about 6 years ago (was about 9 or 10) but because we own a hotel that I right next to our house, my parents wouldn't really let me get a kit; so I would just be stuck with pads for as long as I could see. But now my sister has moved out and gone to University, I can put a kit in her room, which is on the other side of the house.

EDIT: £300 is around $550.

Ah nice.

Again, I highly recomend considering instruction. Even if it means taking it out of your gear budget.

Yeah, I most likely will end up getting instruction; I am prepared to pay the money for it; since my Guitar instruction recently ended.

I started off with a crap kit because if i didnt want to do it after a few months youre buggered if your kit was £1,000. Go for it and sav the extra £s for skins
