Bad year for Indie music in terms of New music and breakthrough albums?
2005 was the death of indie.
There is no more indie.
All music is now either signed to a major label or on myspace.

That depends on what you mean by "indie".
During 2005 I found that the connotation had become pretty negative. But that's perfectly justified, when you look at the countless synth-pop bands signed to major labels and whoring themselves on, like Zmev said, myspace.
The independent bands I've heard that are being promoted either sound just like everything else, or just plain bad.
So was it a bad year for indie? I don't know, I think a lot of good bands that actually are independent got ignored.

2004-2005 is when indie went mainstream.
in 04-05 independent record labels sold more albums than all the major conglomorates combined, a first in the histroy of the industry
