Ok, I have me a little plan:

I'm in the UK (where prices for drums aren't too nice), but my cuz is flying in from Canada next month... and figure he could bring a snare drum over with him. Failing that, I'll just fork out for the shipping.

I love the ringy honk you get from metal snares (I had a cheapo steel one with my old starter kit which I loved, more-so than my current Tama Rockstar Custom)... Acrylic snares are damn sexy, so these are the two types I'm opting for. My band play classic rock type songs (think zeppelin). I'd like something versatile, too (i.e. able to handle anything from jazzy funk to hard rock).

I'm looking to spend no more than £400/$710/$820CAD.

Please gimme comments/recommendations/reviews/warnings about the following:
-Noble & Cooley Alloy Classic Snare Drum 14x4.75 <--- probably my favourite atm, my teacher uses a N&C and he says its real tasty.

-Pork Pie Piglite Acrylic Snare Drum 14x6

-Ludwig Black Beauty Snare Drum 14x5

-Pearl Chad Smith Sig. Snare Drum 14x5
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7357103694&fromMakeTrack=true
-Ludwig Vistalite snares in general... Heres a Red 14x5.5.... Rather sexy, no?

I'm just using these links as illustrations, excuse the ebay-ness. Feel free to suggest any other snares too.

I'd definitely go for the Noble and Cooley. Those are amazing drums and usually go for an insane amount of money. That'd be my choice for sure :thumb:

Wow, you have a high-end snare (the N&C) and an intermediate snare (the CS) in the same list.

Go for the Nonle and Cooley

Hmmm, seems like I'm getting Noble & Cooley screamed at me left, right and centre. I've emailed Indoor Storm to check about the postage. It sounds nice on the lil sound clip on the auction.

What do you guys think of Vistalite snares.... do they actually sound nice?

Dunno about the number, but I know it was a Suprafonic. My drum teacher has one and he plays everything jazz, rock, latin, everything. It sounds awesome.

Cool stuff, I've always loved steel snares anyways... So do I buy a relatively cheap supra, or go all out and buy the noble & cooley?

I'm probably still leaning towards the Noble, theres something about emptying a bank account which really does it for me. What do you think of Noble & Cooley, Massik Kretal?

Never played it, but I know they are awesome snares. I'm just suggesting the Supraphonic becuase I have experience playing it.

Another great snare, you don't have on your list, is the Premier Modern Classic maple or birch snare. My friend has the maple 7x14 and that drum is pure heaven. Great versitality and is around the price of a supra-phonic.

it's to bad that you don't like wood because this is one of the 5 hottest snares I've ever seen.

That N&C is hot... I like aluminum snares too.

Those BP Limited Edition snares are so hot... if I ever see a deal on one of the hammered brass snares and I have the money for it, I'll probably get it, even if only as a showpiece >_>

you should know with all those ****in' stickers on your bassdrum, I'm suprised you don't muffle that kick with catalogues...

by the way, for the OP: I would wait for something to show on ebay. You can get almost any snare of any caliber for $710. I haven't seen many Brady's on eBay tho, so I'd go for a Brady. Do it right.
