I pretty much grew up listening to David Silveria, and so he has always been a pretty major inspiration. Even if it hasn't been so directly, in that I don't watch his videos to copy ideas, his feel is there.
David never really played with correct technique, but the notes were still there in the right places, at the right dynamic.
He is individual in that he brings funk, and jungle into the Nu Metal style of Korn.
For the majority of his career, he played single pedal which is also unusual for the genre. Regardless of not having formal lessons, David has inspired and excited many drummers in the past, and will always continue to.

One of my favourote drummers.SOngs like "Faget" with its double bass doubles and other songs like "Chi" and "Porno Creep" are among his best. The first two Korn albums had amazing drumming. The last ones have seen Dave ease up on many of his fills and just play for the song which is good as well.

Although it's sometimes a bit sloppy his work on the first Korn record is really great, cool and creative grooves.

Of all the people to make a thread about David, I wouldn't have figured you would have BB. Of course, I never really figured you liked Korn either

lol i love that part.

i went through every korn song to get ideas from it, and some have really nice beats i would have never thought of. i think he's a great drummer, and his sticks are pretty nice too.

He's got some really tight tom grooves, mostly on Korn's self-titled. Blind is an awesome song to rock out to, as with many others; Freak on a Leash, Ball Tongue, Faget.

David and Fieldy are a super tight rythym section. Slap bass and a huge kick sound.

I don't really like Korn... at all. But I can say I like some of his playing.

And those chrome Paistes are just damn sexy.

This guy was one of my first inspirators, this was the first band i ever listened to and i was just in aw of his drumming skills(fagot in particular). For a while he played with sticks that were to heavy and caused wrist problems for him. I saw a video recently of them and they took a bunch of fans from europe and some US troops and took them on a private plane from london to new york for a performance and on the plane ride over they set up and played 37,000 feet in the air.....davids whole kit didn't fit so he had a 5pc and ride, crash and hi-hats.

I thought it was pretty rad, not into the new stuff but all of them are awesome(since munky has twice the work to do now and JD is an excellent vocalist, never misses a pitch)

^I'd have to disagree, although you are entitled to your opinion and I'll respect that. Out of curiosity though, why do you think they sound "ace"? I think they sound terrible. Both on the new album and live when I had the pleasure of seeing them play just recently a little while ago on the 3rd. I think the main thing that turned me off is that he was using triggers all around, even on the snare :( and his sound was just so artifitial and blah. Don't tell me he doesn't use them either, because spotting a bright red trigger on a completely chromed out set isn't that hard, and I was front row in the pit so I was like 15 feet away from his kit

Yeah I have to say he's an influence to me too. When I first started playing about 3 years ago, I knew nothing about drums and I was going through my I love korn teenage phase. Although I knew nothing about drums, David's playing on the first korn album sounded really awesome to me, so it made me decide to start playing. After that you discover how mediocre he is and it sort of lets you down and you discover other true great players, but I can't deny his influence on me when I was younger.

He is using triggers, but not in the cheap way that a lot of metal guys are. He is just using them for a different sound. The drums on the new album sound electronic and fake on purpose. I don't like it but that's the sound they were going for.

i love silveria, but hes in my 'drummers i love but arent one of the drum gods' category

i <3 korn

btw when i was a newb i always thought silveria was making that raunchy bass sound (shorty's slapping sound) through a trigger..

Ah, I liked Korn a while ago but I don't like their new songs, it opened my eyes to more styles of music too. I went to see them too on the Untouchables tour, they played a bit too much of that album though. My favourite song is Make Me Bad and my favourite album's the first.

Too bad Korn gave head to god though :D

I disagree, I actually think its pretty decent. Its not as metally as there other albums, its a bit different as in its not as hard. It has more dance tracks if I remember rightly, I havent listened to it for ages.

That's an ironically acruate thing. I always thought david's playing was interesting and a lil different. I was however dissapointed to see him in the drumshop a few years ago getting lessons to correct his technique due to mounting wrist problems.

I think it's a fantastic example of how someone can be a great, popular, famous player and still not be using healthy technique. Though he fixed it, and now plays better then before. Nice guy too.

you've meet him? lucky.....is he nice cuz he seems it. what did u guys talk about?

ps how much is it to have ur paistes in a different finish like jordison's white and david's chrome?(that guy seriously has a chrome fixation....wonder if his restauraunt is covered in chrome?)

mysticalyeti

I think it's something like a 30% increase from the regular price... and considering Paiste is rather expensive new in most places, that's quite a lot.

His time keeping skills were quite "iffy" early on, and his technique almost put him out of commision forever. He's not a bad player though he's come up with some decent stuff.

okay, is it David's kick drum that makes the horrible click clack sound you hear in all the newer Korn? Or is it the bass?? it annoys the f*ck outta me, also i don't like the constant hi hat 8's, like in "Got The Life" I must say that Korn's first 2 albums and Issues were GREAT on the contrary!!!

Davids a cool guy. I enjoyed the time I was seeing him while he was coming into the shop for lessons to fix his destroyed wrists.

Learn the truth! Improper technique WILL take you down. It happend to David, it can happen to you!!

^One of the main reasons I am glad I found someone decent in Chattanooga to give me lessons. I was so worried I might be doing harm to my wrists. Fortunately, there was very little wrong with my grip. I was actually a little too loose with my back fingers.

The fact that he hits hard as a mother most all the time might have helped in aiding that wrist injury, as hes stated himself before.
