When I turn the tone knob up, the string noise is terrible. How does one deal with this? I like how a big fat tone sounds but when its making that terrible noise from my fingers touching and sliding on the strings I hate it!

Tone is basically a cut/boost switch for treble, turn down the treble in your signal or lift your fingers when you slide..

a tone knob is definitely NOT a cut/boost control. It is a cut-only control. When you turn it all the way up to the point where there is the most treble, you've essentially put your bass in a "flat" position. Make no mistake, a passive tone circuit does not possess the ability to boost frequencies.

Did you ever figure out anything about those?

Yeah, I thought about the Villex tone circuit with its passive mid-boost circuit, but I didn't think the threadstarter was using a Villex equipped bass, so I didn't bother mentioning it. I still am clueless on those things. David Wilson over at TB explained how they work, when I read it about a year or so ago, I was completely lost.
