Okay I just listened to 3 of your songs.

Rebirth: This song is okay. I like the last bit in the end, but at some parts the vocals and the music were off and the vocals were much higher (in volume) than the music. That didn't help to make the music feel open.

Solus : Has a nice catchy tune, the music was open this time but the vocalist had a couple of bum notes. The vocalist kinds reminds me of John Nolan (Straylight Run's lead singer) sounds so much like him. But yeah, this was the best song vocally.

See The Red: The catchiest song you've got. Music was great, but the vocals were not that good. The harmony is all messed up (when you say 'point your finger') and sounds out of tune, you really need to work on that.

I think your band is going in the right direction, you need to practice alot with the vocalist to get the songs right though. Good Luck....

Hey, thanks for responding so quickly! Something I didn't explain in my first post was that the songs were recorded over a span of less than a week, since we had to quickly throw a demo together to enter our city's Battle of the Bands. Although this is no excuse for some of the shortcomings that exist, I think it's not a representation of us at our very best. The vocals in See The Red were recorded after an entire day of singing straight, in a mad rush to get things done for the deadline.

It was also my first endeavour into the world of harmonies, since I've never had to deal with them before, so I apologize for some out-of-tune notes here and there.

>> Rebirth: This song is okay. I like the last bit in the end, but at some parts the vocals and the music were off and the vocals were much higher (in volume) than the music. That didn't help to make the music feel open.

I think a major part of the reason that the vocals and the music were off is because we recorded all of the instruments live and then I sang over top of a track of them all together, so the vocals were unavoidedly sticking out like a sore thumb. Do you think you could elaborate on the term "open" used in this context? :)

>> Solus : Has a nice catchy tune, the music was open this time but the vocalist had a couple of bum notes. The vocalist kinds reminds me of John Nolan (Straylight Run's lead singer) sounds so much like him. But yeah, this was the best song vocally.

I'll check out John Nolan. I've heard quite a few comparisions that I really don't see within myself, so I'm hoping this is one that I can say "he's right!" to.

>> See The Red: The catchiest song you've got. Music was great, but the vocals were not that good. The harmony is all messed up (when you say 'point your finger') and sounds out of tune, you really need to work on that.

I will work on nailing harmonies more tightly and accurately. I'm going to be a bum and blame this on singing for far longer than my voice should have been pushed to, but I'm unsure if with an un-worked voice I would be much better.

>> I think your band is going in the right direction, you need to practice alot with the vocalist to get the songs right though.

I'll definitely work on getting the vocals more strong and thought out. I tend to dislike the way I write melodies, as they always seem to be very drawn out and uninteresting, which is why I like the verses of See The Red; they're driving and somewhat flowing. I'm much more accustomed to singing with just me and my acoustic guitar (as can be evident with Solus), so singing with a metal band is quite the adjustment to me, but one that I'm working hard at to overcome.

>> Good Luck....

Thank you very much for your response, and I'll work on the things you suggested!

No problem...yeah your voice is a lot like John Nolan...try to download Another Word For Desperate by Straylight Run. I really do think you can do much better on your songs...

Oh one more thing, what I meant by open is that the music was really background, try pushin it up a little so it sounds better. The closest thing to this (so you'd understand it better) is a radio under a pillow, you should take the pillow off (but not too much).

Tell me when you're finished with your songs :). I'd like to hear the final versions.
