My teacher showed me this a while ago, and I have been practicing it a fair bit but I don't seem to be advancing at all.

What do you think? If it's useless, what are some good ones? This one also uses a bit of alt picking, which I am progressing with fine.

I hate sweeping...but that's because I can't do it.

hades2, you can practice Leukeh's example without sweeping. Actually, I would suggest trying both alternate picking and sweep picking. Both are important.

Also, hades2, you can do sweep picking, it's just a drag at first (pun intended).

Use a metronome - and try to sweep eighth notes at 80bpm. Don't bump up the tempo until you are executing it cleanly at 80.

Practice with shapes you will actually be USING, chromatics work to get the motion down, but unless you're John Petrucci, you probably won't have much use for them lol
