Wow, I havn't been here for a while; things sure have changed...
so, on to my question:
What is this Bass guitar?
http://tsukiyo.uw.hu/images/instruments/killer_haunted.jpg
Its used in Dir en Grey's 'Myaku' video, but you only get to see it for 2sec. tops
http://tsukiyo.uw.hu/images/instruments/totchiguitar6.jpg
Its also used on one of their live-tours once (maybe its fragile? )

Any ideas?
I doubt its a custom

No, I'm almost 100% sure that's custom. It kind of looks like something BassLab would make.

Why wouldn't it be a custom?

Valdris
12-16-2005, 05:53 PM
I thought its not a custom, because he smashes one on stage, then gets a new one right away

*she

....right?

It's quite possible there are a couple built of easily-breakable, crap wood just for show. I've done it a few times.

Valdris

No, its a he

Thanks anyway ;)
I guess I'll have to build one now >_>

unique, but not functional...

It doesn't look like something you play "The Big Money" or "New World man" on.

Didn't Killer guitars sponsor LOUDNESS back in the 80's? "Run For Your Life!" 80's Japanese metal!!!

K, i'm gonna e-mail Killer tommorrow and ask how much such a Bass would cost, and if its not too _obscure_ (terrible band-joke), I'll maybe buy it.

And yes its a guy, get over it ><

The only thing that made me think he was a girl was his picking style. It resembles that of about every other girl I've ever seen.

Weirdos.

Yep, but they also support shred in a massive way, hence Marty Friedman practically living there these days.

the bass looks like something out of a Final Fantasy game.

and am I the only one who is seriously surprised that it appears that more than 2 people have heard of this band? I never hear about Asian bands.

That music just sucked :(

I like the japanese song "symphony of the night" aswell as X-Japans "sadistic desire" that song has also got really cool non-funky slap bass that fits in great. But I don't know if the ones I like are visual kei or just plain J-rock

Valdris
12-17-2005, 04:27 PM
Yeah, maybe its wasn't the best song to pick, but their live-shows own.

K I did a little research, and those are around 750,000 Yen.
So, thats around 6000U$?

not too outrageous, but still a little too much in my opinion... :(

Oh **** its Dir En Grey, one of my friends is a fanatic. Visual Kei freaks me out, those guys look like girls, but if you focus really hard, turn your head on a 45 degree angle, and squint with one eye closed, you can tell they're guys.

Especially when you can see thier noses, thats what gives them away.

Alright enough about him, lets focus on the Bass!

I wonder what materials they used.
I'm guessing Leather or PVC, but it might just be 100% glue+tissue...

And are those Flatwound strings on the picture?

it is probably constucted out of fiberglass over a wood body, and its impossible to tell of those are flatwounds on it in the picture

The bass looks like the guitar weapon axe thing from Devil May Cry 3.

I wonder if it can control electricity too?

Anyway, whoever said his picking style is girly...that picture is very similar to my style, using the pinky and ring finger to semi-anchor the hand, and mostly gripping the pick with the pads of the finger. I wish I didn't play like that, it looks horrible and is ultimately (I imagine) not doing me any favours.
