Since the disadvantages of being a lefty, i wanna buy a bass and string it right, but without feeling awkward a lot. Also when playing bass i want to be flexable and use both pick and fingers. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance:thumb:

Buy a symmetrical bass maybe? There are a few.

The only problem with the bass will be the position of the knobs (and the nut, but you can flip that around). I can't suggest anything, but look into stuff which has the knobs closer to the neck, or possibly find some replacement knobs that are alot flatter.

Well Leftys usually cost more, and I have no job and a band wants me to play bass ASAP. So anything thats comfortable and cheap would do the job. Something on ebay would be good too., and yes i did look into rondo before and they charge too much for shipping to canada

The Hofner violin bass and knockoffs are pretty symmetrical, but the look and sound isn't really good for anything except a Beatles cover band in my opinion... maybe you could find an SG bass or flying V, also symmetrical designs. Maybe get a Reverse Thunderbird and turn it into a regular Thunderbird or vice-versa. Otherwise the standard P-bass looks alright strung upside down like Jimi Hendrix's stratocasters. I wouldn't try a BC Rich Beast or anything, I know a guy who lost an arm trying to play one of those upside down. seriously

So you don't play bass, but a band needs you to ASAP? Wow, they've gotta be desparate.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. By the way, congrats on 1000 posts.

I just made it in the forced listening thread in the punk forum, thanks.
Why not just go with a lefty bass? They're the same price everywhere I've seen them.

If you want a flippable righty bass, look into fender p's and j's. Depending on how you will be wearing it, the knobs wont even be in the way, and the "horns" are basically the same on both sides.

Yeah, they're about 50% guitarists+45% drummers+5% bassists in my neighbourhood. Ever since i started playing guitar i wanted to take up the bass aswell. Something about the low, deep sound always caught my interest.
Speaking as a lefty..
Get a lefty. It's worth it in the long run.

Rickenbackers have got really good fret access left handed. But probably not what your looking for. SG's as well

Yeah, SG bass.
Gibsons usually get looked over on these forums, from what i;ve palyed the bass line is pretty darn solid, especially the LP bass.

ibanez makes that weird bass that has one humbucker and looks really cheap, that thing is assymetrical..
Hamer makes something too I think.

left handed basses arent that much more expensive. save your money for now, and get a lefty. it will feel awkward playing a right handed bass lefty. the cord will come out on top, the knobs will be on top, the nut will be backwards.

BC Rich lefty basses are the same price as rights.

I'm not following your logic. And I wouldn't totally discard Johnson. They are the same as all other starter basses really.

He says they charge too much to ship to Canada.
I think when you consider the effort and cost to reverse a bass, and how uncomfortable it will be to play (not to mention you'll look stupid playing it), you'll agree.

To make a bass left-handed, you'd have to replace the nut (which costs a few bucks), move the strap buttons (or whatever they are called...)... this will leave holes where you took them out and you'll probably put them in the wrong place and mess up the balance. I'm a lefty... trust me... just buy a left-handed bass. I actually made one of my left-handed guitars right-handed for my brother (weird, right?) and it wasn't a success. The intonation was off big time at the nut... but it didn't matter. My brother never really got into it.
Get a lefty. Check out rondomusic.net. I have the left-handed fretless that was previously mentioned and I like it. Get a fretted bass to begin though. I, personally, was thinking about getting the natural jazz-copy on rondomusic and upgrading everything... but then I decided on the fretless.
Good luck.
