This Bass Sound - P or J?

Should I buy a Precision Bass or a Jazz Bass? Thanks and also what type of effects or settings would I use to achieve that sort of sound. If you need a longer clip to decide then just ask.

We'll need a longer clip than that. It's hard to hear the specifics in a half note bass solo.

That sounds like Children of Bodom. Go to their website and see what the bassist uses.

It's more overdriven than anything else, just getting the right bass certainly won't give you that sound.

You'd need the same amps/processors too.

yea thats COB alright trashed lost and strungout is the name of the song and the COB bassist uses a custom ESP fyi and uses an overdrive pedal

That's definitely a neck-pickup sort of sound, but also sort of deep.... i bet he's got a pickup in the sweet spot.
