Well, I just bought a bass, a Ibanez Soundgear. I was wondering if it was possible to use my guitar amp with it, or use a guitar on a bass amp. I don't want to have to buy 2 seperate amps as I have limited amounts of cash...I've heard that guitars will work on bass amps, but bass's won't work on guitar amps.

Also, if it is possible to use a guitar on a bass amp, what would be a good amp? My friends want me to play bass in their band, and I need a decent amp for shows, he said a 150-200watt should be fine...?

ps-my friend is selling his amp here: http://cgi.ebay.com/Fender-Bassman-100-Bass-Amp-Combo-PERFECT-CONDITION_W0QQitemZ7375036895QQcategoryZ64397QQrdZ %20%201QQcmdZViewItem
Is that a decent price for that amp? Would this be big enough to gig with? Thanks.

You need a bass amp for your bass, a bass played thru a guitar amp will destroy the guitar amp, guitar amps are not designed to go down to low frequencies of a bass, bass amps tend to be sealed or ported, gutiar amps typically are open backed, which is easier and cheaper than having to seal the cabinet but will not go down to the low frequencies of a bass. A guitar can be played through a bass amp and actually sounds very good with a distortion pedal through a bass amp, I have done that thru a Fender Bassman amp of a friends similar to the one shown.

as far as the amp shown, I believe it selling new at zzounds for $300 if I got the model right, paying $350 for a used amp that sells for $300 new is a mistake

and most stores will match an internet price from a reliable dealer on new equipment.

This is a bit off topic but what about baritone guitars? Can you use a standard guitar amp for them since they're tunded so much lower?
