While I prefer Jack Johnson, I think Ben Harper (along with Xavier Rudd) make some of the best easy listening music i've heard for a very long time. I like pretty much all of his music, but especially "Walk Away", "High Tide Or Low Tide", and "Diamonds On The Inside".

Live from Mars is excellent. The rest of his albums vary between great and monotonous.

If anything it boils down to: great musician, sub-par lyricist

I haven't listened to any Ben Harper for a while, but I used to love him. I'll give his stuff another listen tomorrow.

Give A Man A Home was my favourite track.

I have "Diamons on the Inside". I found it at a Used CD store. Good album, but I think it's the only one I need. I'm not huge into the style.

The only song of his I like is the "Tide" duet with Jack Johnson. I love Jack Johnson, but Ben Harpers voice ruins his music for me. Jack Johnson just has such a great sound, which I think Ben Harper is lacking...

At his best he can be amazing. Unfortunately he seems to be rather inconsistent.

Unfortunately he seems to be rather inconsistent.

This is true. When I first began listening to him, I downloaded a couple of songs and thought they were great. I then bought Welcome To The Cruel World, and thought that half of it was terrible. Meh...

Yeah I can't say I've enjoyed any of his CD's all the way through, excluding Live From Mars from that list.

"Suzie Blue" is my favorite song, one of my all-time favorites at that.
