I point out two buys that did not like that much:
1)Ahead Lars Ulrich sig model.
I thought I'd give Ahead drumsticks a try but the model I bought disappointed me.Firstly I hate the fact that the weight of the drumstick leans to the front and secondly if you sweat even a little the stick control becomes nasty.
2)Kenny Aronoff sig model cowbell.
If you ask me "is it groovy" I'd say not really.U cant play a decent samba with it.Is it loud?It really is.

The aronoff cowbel is awesome, you have to use both dampening pads underneith it though to loose a little of the ring. I have the 8"er and it ROCKS

It's also designed for rock, not sambas.
Anybody who knows what a samba is shouldn't be buying Aheads to begin with..shame on you for supporting that terrible company! :upset:

Where do you get these cowbell mute things? Would it make it sound a little closer to a hend held cowbell?

well i dunno, i'm sure they've got some use....like maybe to scrape dung off the bottom of a shoe....or you could probably using them when hunting with a bow....or you use them to mug a person from behind....or to bust up a rival drummers set....or as stated above a tool of pleasure....they've got their purpose, they're just marketing to the wrong crowd(or maybe not cuz idiots still by them)

^^i know what I was thinkin.I thought: lets give durability a chance...but it appears I had to sacrifice all the other benefits of a (good) drumstick.
Ahead drumsticks thumbs down

at the risk of being flamed for eternity...
do you think we're a bit hard on ahead sticks? personally, i don't use them for the following reasons:
- i don't like the feel
- they're expensive
- they break cymbals
but if a loaded pro drummer actually likes the feel, i doubt my last 2 points would be applicable! i mean, surely they can't be that bad because a number of pro's use them and the drumming doesn't sound bad on their tracks (to me anyway)
obviously, there's the fact that a lot of regular drummers hate them because of the usual Joey, Lars etc branding, but other than that and if money was no object, are they really that bad?

pr!ck
i'm amazed that no one has offered another reason for aheads being so bad. i don't use them because i can't afford to keep replacing cymbals
looks to me like everyone just jumps on the "aheads are crap" band wagon without actually having a reason

I know atleast two people who regularly play them, and i've playtested one pair i borrowed from one of them.
I didn't liked the feel and they are way to unbalanced, that's why i don't like them, i don't care if Joey or Lars or Tommy Lee plays them.

The reason pros will play them is very unlikely that they like the feel so much compared to other sticks.
The MAIN reason is ENDORSEMENT. Those suckers get paid to play those sticks, get the sticks for free, and it doesn't matter if they break a cymbal because they also get THOSE for free. Ever see Metallica tour with a blemished cymbal? Slipknot? Yeah thought not.
Drum Phil

Yes because they in turn waste the cymbal hammerers time in making that cymbal and (if they're endorsed) jack up the prices for the rest of us
Fixed :naughty:

i actually like the aheads, if i play only 1 or 2 songs with them during performance.. maybe they ARE heavy, but they give you everything your drumset has got.. to prevent the sticks of slipping out of your hands, use grip-tape..
but i won't recommend playing more than 2 songs with them ;)..

I'm asking for reasons why other drummers use Aheads who don't have endorsements - I think Kevin Talley from Chimaira is a good example (I don't think he is endorsed by Aheads, correct me if I'm wrong)
