ive decided on buying a few pedals to round off my rig for the time being, so far ive got a 105q wah, and a big muff, and i thikn compression is a must, especially now im playing more slap. My amp (Trace 715) has an on board compressor but its the crappest of the crap
My amps a combo so pedals only, ive been looking at an aphex punch factory, and an aphex bass xciter. I realise the xciters not a compressor, but its similar.
anyway i was wondering if anyone could reccomend compression or xcitement (lame i know) and if compression what pedal, cheers

Its not even remotely similar. Compressors reduce the output dynamic of your basses signal. Exciters take your signal, split it into stereo, put the two channels slightly out of phase with each other, apply small amounts of overdrive to the upper harmonic structure and then recombine the stereo signal into a mono signal.
How on earth could those be considered similar?

How on earth could those be considered similar?
Because they're both stomp boxes that alter the dynamics of your singal and most of the people i know with xciters use them instead of compression
thanks for the help by the way

^^No, because edge asked why he thought that those would be the same. But you're right at the other part ;)

Look, i made this thread to ask for advice, edge patronised me and offered no constructive support whatsoever, i fail to see why just because his post counts bigger than mine he should be exempt from common decency, if he didnt have any advice to offer he should have not posted anything

No one made a problem about this super.. really. The guy was just answering the question egde asked him. Not everyone knows everything about effects etc, even edge didn't knew a thing a few years ago..
Give the guy a break :)

No. >:-(
I just wish people wouldn't take the internet so seriously sometimes. I guess that's my own stupid fault. Whatever, it's not a big deal.
Happy?

Because they're both stomp boxes that alter the dynamics of your singal
So by that rationale, any device that alters your signal and is in the format of a stomp box is similar to a compressor? So, distortion, chorus, flanger, multi-effects units, etc. etc. etc. are all similar to compression?
How in any way is that an anwser to my request?
Its not an answer to your post. It was a way to correct an eroneous statement that you put forth.
I'll stop feeding the troll now.....
EDIT: Oh, and I most certainly was not patronizing you. I was simply correcting an eroneous statement that you put forth...... okay, NOW I'll stop feeding the troll.

I don't know about the exciter but I have the Punch Factory and love it! I would recommend it highly!
