Hey all,

I own a Behringer UB1202 mixer, Shure SM57 and Behringer B1. The B1 requires phantom power (which can be provided by the mixer) but the SM57 does not. When phantom power is activated on the mixer, the manual tells me that it sends power to each mic input. As the SM57 does not require phantom power, is it safe to use both at the same time with phantom power on? I don't want to damage the SM57 and the instructions don't make it clear.

Cheers for any help

it is, the SM57 will "reject" the phantom power being supplied.

Yeah any balanced dynamic microphone shouldn't be harmed by phantom. High-quality mics such as 57s are definitely not.

Dynamic mics will only be damaged if they are unbalanced or their electronics are very very scrappy, in which case consider the mic broken anyway.

Ribbon mics definitely WOULD be damaged if phantom power was applied to them.
