View Full Version : Top 100 Rock/Metal Vocalists: Round 2, Poll B

YDload

Second poll of the second round. You might notice these ones aren't filled with lengthy bios, so I hope you read them all from the last round!

Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden): Yeah ee yeah ee yeah, hallowed by thy NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAME.

David Gilmour (Pink Floyd): I thought Waters was the singer pretty much all the time, shows what I know.

King Diamond (Mercyful Fate/solo): I hear he's pretty talented.

Roger Daltrey (The Who): Why don't you all f-f-f-fade away?

Jeff Buckley (solo): Hearing his voice and his songs is so much sadder because he died in a ridiculous drowning accident.

Dave Mustaine (Megadeth): Hello me, meet the real me.

Cedric Bixler (The Mars Volta): Exoskeletal junction at the railroad delayed.

Bon Scott (AC/DC): Dirty deeds done dirt cheap.

Matt Bellamy (Radiohead oops I mean Muse): He's ok I guess

John Lennon (The Beatles/solo): Imagine there's no heaven... then where the hell is Lennon now?

Okay do some voting.

Well I'll be damned, I guess Gilmour IS far superior to Waters in the vocal department. Still, I don't think he's so good that he can just walk away with so many votes all the time. Just like Waters in the bass polls. Or for that matter, Waters in THESE polls. Why did he make it through again? Oh yeah, because Pink Floyd is immensely popular which must mean that every single aspect of the band is superior by itself. ROLL****INGEYES

In my opinion King Diamond has the best vocal control and display I've heard on a single album and his two records I own from Mercyful Fate (Melissa & Don't Break The Oath) Simply show case his singing talents to me. Bruce Dickenson defines a voice that is by far one of my favourite, but I prefer Paul Di'Anno (Iron Maiden's singer during their debut & Killers.) Mustaine is my third favourite singer along with David Gilmour, but to me they appeal more as the guiar gods they are.

maiden aren't power metal, they just inspired a lot of power metal bands. and he doesn't just sing high and he can do ballads well (see: Iron Maiden - Journeyman, and his solo song Navigate the Seas of the Sun). also, he's got an awesome range (see: Iron Maiden - Sign of the Cross, live at Rock in Rio, the original was sung by Blaze) and he manages to make that song sound so dark.

plus, Bruce's singing > my singing

Anyway, he has a range of great voices and he has a LOT of technical skill too (vocal range, vibrato, lung capacity, power, control) - did I mention vibrato? He is a great live performer as well. Which is why I said it was a personal opinion... I don't really like the sound of Dickinson that much, even if his voice is technically superior.

Every other poll in MX history was a popularity contest, not a skill contest, hence Metallica being the best metal band ever, Hendrix being the best guitarist ever, RHCP being the best modern rock group(Hah!*) ever, ect ect, so I see no problem in voting for favorites over terms of skill.

His vocals in ATDI weren't very good at all. They sounded like Zack De La Rocha if he tried to sing instead of rap, and I'm not sure that he wouldn't have been better than Cedric anyway. But that band had some great energy and the ability to make meaning out of simple musicianship and nonsense lyrics.
