Yesterday I went out and bought a splitter so that I could make copies of my tapes on my stereo. It plugs in through the headphone jack on my cheapo cassette recorder. I was wondering if I could use this cord to put the files on my computer. Does anyone know what kind of cord I can buy (preferably at Wal-Mart, but specialty stores are ok) to transfer sound from a cassette player/recorder to a computer?

im not sure but this should work in theory... If your tape deck has a red and white line out thingo.. Get a chord which has red and white plugs in a small jack. simply plug it in and put the jack en to you computer line in and record using a program and press play on your tape.

Yep. I do it all the time, because I had a lot of good cassets, but no player in my car, so I had to burn them onto cds. The quality is (of course) never as good as regular cds, but it's fairly good. I recommended getting the software program called audiograbber. With it you can record line in stuff (which the tape will be), and it has a really good equaliser so you can make sure you're not recording it too loud. It records to .wav files, though, so you might want to get something to convert them into MP3 format.

Stereo minijack? I haven't ran to WalMart yet, but can someone describe it to me?

You could use something like this.

Plug the RCA's on the outputs of your tape deck, then the 1/8" jack to the line in on your sound card. You could use audacity for the transfer process. Make sure it is set to line in on audacity.
When you are all set, just push play on the tape deck and record on audacity. When you are finished, export that file.

K, not trying to sound like an idiot, but does 'pluggin it into the sound card' imply that I plug it into the speaker jack? By the way, the cord pictured above is the one that I bought originally.

No, I meant which port do I plug into? The headphone jack on my computer speakers? The video output? Is there a specific color to it/place?
