-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Formed in highschool by some snotty drunk red sox fans (Trevor Reilly, Nuno Pereira, John Teves, John C, and Nick Angelini) in New Bedford Massachusets, A Wilhelm Scream have quickly become one of the best known melodic hardcore bands around today. Fueled by guitar and vocal harmonies, sparatic drums, gruff vocals and unorthodox arrangements AWS have released some of the cathchiest records to come out since the turn of the century.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Biography
Originally known as Smackin Isaiah (a masturbation reference) they released their first "real" record The Way to a Girls Heart is Through Her Boyfriends Stomach in 2001 under this name on All About Records. Featuring some songs that still hold up today, (1957, September 9th) despite their obvious progression as musicians.

In between their two records TWtaGHiTHBS (wow thats even a long title as an acronym) and Benefits of Thinking Outloud, Smackin' Isaiah released their ep Champagne of Bands... We know sexy which featured guitar harmonies as 'clear as mud' as guitarist/vocalist Trevor Reilly recalls. This album saw the leaving of John C, who was replaced by Chris Levesque who upon joining the band insisted that they change their name to A Wilhelm Scream, a reference to a classic movie soundclip used in countless movies.

In 2002 AWS released what I believe to be an underated album Benefits of Thinking Outloud on Jumpstart (originally on Tank records). Although sounding a bit more pop-punk than their current work, this album boasts some great songs including September 10th, Chapter of Accidents, Halycyon Days, and Catharsis for Dummies and is a must own for any AWS fan, but often overlooked in favor of Mute Print and Ruiner.

Ahh, Mute Print. Released in 2004 after being signed on to Nitro Records, every song on this cd is amazing. From the accapulo (sp?) opener of Mute Print to the depressed closer of Dreaming of Throwing up this cd blows me away every time I listen to it. If you have never heard AWS before listen to The Rip (http://www.purevolume.com/awilhelmscream)
and when youre done weeping at its beauty, buy this cd.

Ruiner is the album most recently released by this rambuctious group of drunkards from the boston/ new bedford scene. Released in 2005 on Nitro this album also makes me feel like whoring it out to everyone that talks to me for more than 10 minutes. Although recorded with former bassist John, he left the band shortly after recording this to be replaced by Curtiss Lopez, because he felt his heart wasnt really into it any longer. This cd has some definate classics such as The King is Dead, Me vs. Morissey, The Kids Can Eat a Bag of Dicks, and Cancer Dream.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Whether you love their music, or have such a complete moronic taste in music that you cant see their obvious greatness, theres no denying that this band is talented. From humble beginnings of getting drunk and playing music as fast as possible, to their current status of... getting drunk and playing music as fast as possible, AWS are definately a fun experience to listen to on cd or see live, and I highly recommend checking them out if you havent yet.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Recommended Tracks: The Rip, The King is Dead, Famous Friends and Fashion Drunks, September 10th, Halycyon Days, Picture of the World, Cancer Dream, Stab. Stab. Stab., The Kids Can Eat a Bag of Dicks, Fuc.k You, I Own Hollywood

Good Fa, but I hate that band with a passion. I saw them play with Catch 22 and they were horrible.

I love A Wilhelm Scream. Ever since I heard "The Rip" I have been in love with them. Mute Print is an excellent, excellent album. Good Profile, too.

And, In Vito Veritas II isn't that bad.

Haha, I figured you meant Ruiner. I agree that is was easily one of the best albums released this year.

I like all their stuff a lot. Even their stuff from when they were Smackin' Isaiah is really good.

Am I the only person who thinks that Benefits is wayy better than Ruiner? Don't get me wrong, both are excellent.

I still can't find Mute Print anywhere. I tried ordering it along with Diver from Jumpstart Records' website, but they never sent it and just refunded my money.

Does anyone know any stores that would carry it?

I like Career Suicide a bit better than Ruiner. I need Mute Print and the debut still.

El_Shiznit
10-25-2007, 03:06 PM
There are some songs on Ruiner (mostly towards the end) that are good, but I think could have been left out cause they sound like I've heard them before. It's okay because there are a handful of songs mostly towards the beginning that are just so good, they kinda make up for the closing half of the album.

I feel the same way about Career Suicide except for the fact that there's more of the stand-out songs and less of the mehh ones.

Mute Print is 100% great. Every song. Beginning to end.

albert_bass
10-29-2007, 01:27 PM
The problem I have with Mute Print and reason why I think Career Suicide is better is variety.

In both albums there isn't a single bad song. Not even a mediocre song, but with Mute Print I had that "I've just heard this before" feeling everytime the next track came, which I had not with Career Suicide.

Anyway both albums are on my top (insert whatever number you want here) list. Not Ruiner.

I'm pretty sure this is my favorite release by them. I finally actually bought the cd the other day. The Dr. Octagon reference on it is awesome.
