View Full Version : Dub-Metal: the skindred thread
i was looking for some skindred threads and found out their were none...
so i made my own:) or copied it...:)
Skindred blended reggae and dancehall with searing thrash and punk influences for a striking take on heavy metal hybridism. The group emerged from Wales in 1998, after the dissolution of vocalist Benji Webbe's previous band, Dub War. Rehearsals for a new project featuring other Dub War veterans didn't work out, but soon Webbe had hooked up with bassist Daniel Pugsley, guitarist Mikey Dee, and drummer Dirty Arya, and Skindred was officially born. The debut LP, Babylon, first appeared in 2002 and 2003, with sporadic success in parts of Europe and the U.S. metal underground. But it wasn't until a year or so later and Lava's involvement that the album really took off. Skindred re-released Babylon in August 2004. Lava's version featured different cover art, and included newly recorded material in addition to the original, Howard Benson-helmed songs. Skindred then headed out on a series of tours with acts like Sevendust, Nonpoint, and Papa Roach, and never looked back.

Skindred is one of those bland last wave of Nu-Metal bands dude, we had around 3-4 threads about them summer/fall 2004 but they dropped off the face of the earth in the pseudo-hardcore trend. I actually think it would be better that they got some attention than half the garbage out there right now... they weren't the most original thing, but they didn't sound quite as bad.

I like this band.

well, if you put the crossover syllable.i guess that was already done before. but i havent heard anyband that could pull off Dancehall w/ metal.:)
but if you know any band that mixed dancehall with metal, i would be gladly want to know more...
i find crossover genres very creative, but only if being pulled off right.skindred are one of those....well, as far as my opinion goes:)

They blend the genres fine, it's just that they're painfully bad to listen to.

I heard "Nobody" on a Metal Hammer demo CD and that seems OK. They're supporting InMe this saturday so I shall see them then. I'll reserve my judgement until after I've heard them perform.
They annoy me if I listen to them for too long, but I can dig them.

Hahaha. Christ, that's a mis-match and a half. If InMe haven't radically improved in the time since I saw them, Skindred will blow them off stage.

Anyone who's only heard Nobody hasn't really heard them. I like the pop-punk and dancehall side to them.
Awesome energetic live show too.
