I dont want to buy recording software and pro tools looks amazing. So I'm thinking of taking my old computer that is running xp and putting ME on it so I can run this. So would you consider this program good enough for me to do this. I dont really care about the computer any more. well???

I'd advise against putting Windows ME on any computer. It has too many bugs and crashes way too frequently to be used for any sort of machine that needs reliability (crashing in the middle of a take?). If you want to go back, use Win2000 or 98.

well its not that I want to go back, its just my computer has nothing but windows system processes running and its slow as crap. So maybe taking it back and using me would be okay. I dont intend to have any other programs on it besides recording programs.
EDIT: maybe I can ask my friend if he has 98.

ME just crashes for no reason. It really doesn't matter what you have running, ME -will- crash.

Have you ever used pro tools. If so can you tell me what it is like? I also really like Kristal. I figured with win 98 I can have a choice.

Why is a necessity to use your old computer (am I right in thinking you're using two)?
Anyway, '98 was full of bugs... it was known for crashing quite frequently too. I really wouldn't go there.
Another option is to leave it on XP and just buy some more RAM, but it doesn't seem like you're wanting to spend at all...
What about something like Unix - if it's compatible?
I kinda just stick with Audacity; I haven't used ProTools either, so I can't help you there.

If he's going for ProTools free, he has to use 98. They don't have an XP version available (yes, I know how dumb that sounds).

Pro Tools Free really isn't that good.
If you want to do serious recording then you'll out grow Pro Tools Free very quickly as it only has 8 tracks of audio (1 track for vocals, 2 for guitars, 1 for bass, 4 for drums) it doesn't really leave much room for playing around. Especially not if you have 2 vocalists.
And even Pro Tools LE, which you have to pay for, isn't really that great.
If you can't afford or really don't want to shell out for another program then you can go for Pro Tools Free, it's not awful but you'll quickly outgrow it.
I personally wouldn't reccomend paying for any Pro Tools product though unless you're running a very expensive studio and have the money for it.
I really can't stand the thing.

Well it has fivehundred something ram in it, so its not the ram. Its the ****ty processor. I dont really want to put any money into it. Would windows 98 run faster on my pc considering thats proboably what it was designed for?
