I know how to count 6/8 (one-and-a two-and-a) but how would one go about conducting in it? Any help is appreciated.

I have no idea because I don't play drums, but I think you will get a lot better response in the drum section.

I'm not talking specifically drums, I mean conducting in general. Like in a symphony getting up with a baton conducting.

I'm pretty certain R&M isn't the section to ask questions about conducting.

One large stroke down with the batton to mark 1, then flick it right then left for the 'and a'. The two left to right strokes should also go up so at the end of the 'a' you are at the top ready to counduct the strong beat again.
That's the best way I can think to describe it with words. I would be better at explaining if my camera worked so I could show you properly.

no. three four is conducted with three pulses. down, right*, up. six eight is generally conducted in two. down and up. if the six eight is very slow, then it will be conducted with six pulses. down, right, right, left, left, up.

six eight is a time signature where an eighth note gets one beat, with each measure getting six beats. to listen to, six eight sounds like two four played with triplets.
