bass amp probs

I have a sound city 50 watt bass amp(not a valve one) that when playing through the volume cuts right down until you hit the strings hard then sound cuts back in again.Any ideas????

check the pickups on your bass make sure they are wired propberly and not moving around. Does this happen as soon as you turn it on???. Maybe its over heating im not sure post in the bass forum?
