Took a short video today just messing around with some tom beats. I added to my regular 10,12,and 14 inch tom setup a 16x16 floor tom that is part of the old pearl session elite i bought yesterday that i mentioned in another thread.

some of the stuff is not quite in time, but there's some good stuff in this i guess. i've been playing just short of 5 months.

For 5 months you arn't bad at all. Keep up the work. On some of the stuff it sounded like you were a tad hesitant, just bee confident in the stuff you play, the more difficult stuff will seem easy to you in a few months. :thumb:

Specs if you don't mind.

As a general note, can everyone please post their videos on Google Video? Thx.

That's quite the kit for only playing 5 months. Not bad playing either man.

You go there, and sign up, upload your vids etc. I gotta say, you are off to a great start with your drumming. Try and smile more when you play, because you are doing well. Don't be discouraged :)

Good to see you've started drumming open handed. Very beneficial

yeah my three mapex toms just got new coated ambassador heads, and then that 16x16 tom i put there today has an old old old pearl remo pinstripe, the original head i assume, but it sounds great.

Google video is nice, except for the fact that it doesn't let you download the videos.

you know I've actually been practicing that first beat you did in the vid (which you posted here), and it's pretty cool.. good beat to build on.

and yeah, you're pretty good for just 5 months! you seem a bit hesitant at times, but otherwise I like how free you seem to be with moving around the kit and trying different things. in my ~11 months, I've put a LOT of time into rudiments, timing, and snare work (dynamics and such), but have neglected fills for the most part (I find them to be too generic, and would rather let them develop out of the music I'm playing with), so that's something I can certainly appreciate!

Good stuff for how long you've been playing. All I can suggest is play more lively and also loosely. When you hit crashes it looks like your arm is completely straight and you cant bend it.

you should definitely get some video up of you playing on the sessions...or at least pics of them...

sweet...and also...what kind of video camera do you use and how do you get it on the computer?...i have a "movie box" where you plug the camera into the box...then the box into the computer and it converts it but i cant figure out how to save it...

i dont want to sound picky because you are very good for 5 months
the way you hold your stick..with the thumb up(unless i see it wrong). Play with the back of you hand faceing up..you can read about how to hold them..it gives you more control.
you looked a little tense (although good).what i see is when your moving around the set, you are playing with your arms if you know what i mean. You want to move around with the arms and play with your wrists. so when you get into faster rolls you will not get tired as fast and ...it just the right way..
dont get mad at me..you were really creative with ur beats and gave me some ideas..(2 years playing)

oh yea...how old are you???? ...i get the feeling you wish you would have started earlier because i think if you stick with it you will be really good

You're good for 5 months. Sit up straight, good posture always helps. Be more confident and practice hard.

it's a panasonic mini dv camera. it came with a cable and software to get the video on the computer, then i just edit it with adobe premiere pro 1.5, which is a great program.

yeah i am 21, i do wish i had started earlier. i do have to focus on keeping my grip right, when i practice on the pad and with my teacher i am more conscious of it, but on the kit just "playing," my grip can definitely go astray.

i do need to work more on the wrists too, something i focus on with the pad but not so much on the drumset.

i think i might get a video up sometime this week...i just figured out how to work this software so i should be good...but im not sure how i'll do the challenge...i've got something great (but i think it's a little too overplayed) for the first one...i just don't know how to add the audio...

u think too much when u play man ... loosen up and go with the flow

and try working on keeping things in time. one thing that helps me with this is keeping my bass drum consistent ... like 4 beat every measure for 4/4 time

I think you'll find there isnt a reso head on the bass at all.

Great work man, i love the tom jungle-beat

I noticed at times you lunged into the stroke, I used to do that alot. You just need to relax abit more when playing. Other than that it was pretty good stuff, especially for 5 months.

it sounds great. your snare has a bit of ring to it i noticed. you might want to try a it of crumples up newspaper inside it. i had a snare like that and that fixed it right up. I myself like more of a crack on my snares. I like to play pretty fast so all my head are pretty tight. just fits the music better i think. I'm not telling you to change anything, it sounds great and i love the set.

i know what you mean but consistancy(sp) makes good habits ya know..like you cant learn that right way and then not practice it. but you are doing good..post ^ another video so we can see ur progress
