That's more about Dimebag than the band though.
My opinion on Pantera, okay on an occasional listen but they sure get old fast.

I love Pantera. But they do have a lot of filler sometimes. Far Beyond Driven has probably 3 decent songs. The rest is filler. Great Southern Trendkill is a really underrated album, though.

Far Beyond Driven was my favourite actually, I guess I just like the noisy raw sound from it.

5 Minute Alone is one heavy song.

yes it is. It's a pretty simple song, but the rhythem and intensity are awesome. Vinnie's drumming is great.

No it's not, it's a Pantera thread.
Dime was a Pantera member, obviously there's going to be discussion about him.

How come everyone talks about Dime in Pantera but no one talks about Dime in Damageplan?
nowitzki
12-11-2005, 02:11 PM
Because Damageplan weren't as good?
I didn't mind the Damageplan album but it wasn't a patch on most Pantera.

I don't really care for Damageplan though.

Does anyone else think that Vinnie Paul is a pretty underrated drummer? He was the backbone of all the tight Pantera grooves. When people talk about Pantera, you always here stuff about Dime and Phil. Vinnie and Rex were a huge part of why Pantera songs are so easy to lock in to.

Dime said in an interview that Vinnie is the one who taught Dime how to keep rythem and tight playing. Vinnie may not be the best drummer, but he's not the worst, he's pretty good, and was a big factor for Pantera.

I wouldn't doubt it. I think it's him that makes Pantera's songs so headbangable.

Slaughtered is beyond heavy. Far Beyond Driven is..beyond driven. It's my second favourite after The Great Southern Trendkill. That just blew my mind when it came out, and it's not just one dimensional heavy; Floods, 10s, Suicide Note Part 1...and with the closing The Underground in America/Reprise, it fully solidified itself as my favourite Pantera album.

I think The Art To Shred has one of the best intros for a Pantera song.

12-11-2005, 07:46 PM
I love Pantera, probably one of the very first metal bands I started listening to a while ago. Domination, 5 Minutes Alone and I'm Broken are probably my three favourite Pantera songs.
5 Minutes Alone is probably my favourite Pantera intro, just pure kickass. Damageplan doesn't even come close to as good as Pantera's worst song. They dissapointed me =/
The live Domination video has to be one of the greatest things ever.

Pantera was and is freaking awesome. I'd been a fan ever sice I saw the Cowboy's From Hell video on tv about five years back. My favorite Pantera songs are...
Domination
Hollow
Suicide Note Pt. 2
Floods
The Art Of Shredding
Regular People (Conceit)
****ing Hostile
I'm Broken
Becoming
This Love

Better than his guitar playing (which isn't too bad either :) )
Dimebag was a highly influention guitarist.
Leaving the 80's and into the 90's everything went poppy and soft.
He played metal and didn't water anything down. He kept alive what metal is.
My favorite's even though I'm not a die hard fan have to be,
Walk
This Love
Cowboys from Hell
Cemetary Gates
5 Minutes Alone (my fav)
War Nerve
Drag the Waters
The Great sounthren trendkill
Domination
Hollow
RIP Dimebag
