Hello everyone. A friend of mine and myself have started a side project band thing outside of our normal bands and we just recorded one of our songs last night. I was wondering if I could get some input on the song? Your thoughts and suggestions?

DISCLAIMER: The quality of the recording (mostly me on the drums) is kinda poor because I had to use some crappy microphones I had lying around my house to record (you can hear well enough to get the idea though you can't hear many of the subtle things I do when I am playing the drums)

That aside, let me know what you think about the SONG, not the recording.

Thanks in advance

The song is called Midnight Samba

and yes I am using a ton of double bass drumming

And I do think the song is pretty good otherwise I wouldn't be wasting your time and having you read this and listen to it

Ok, it isn't bad. But the constant semis (16ths) on the bass really don't sound good. Maybe if you played some rythms with the bass in those bits.

Other than that, very nice.

ahhhhh so much double bass

You've got some good double-bass chops, let me say, at about 2:48, if that's double bass then that's pretty amazing. Haha. Anyways, sounds like Maroon 5, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, I liked it. Your pianist is great.

thanks a lot for all the input and haha yeah that's double bass. Nothing hard work can't do. I was afraid I was gonna blow up the microphone I used to record my bass drum (it was an MTV kareoke mic haha!). Feel free to keep the comments flowing I appreciate it

hey, i've been wondering.. how long has your pianist been playing? sounds awesome. And the drumming is great. I love the double bass:thumb:

I definitely enjoyed the melodic elements. Not to bash your drumming...cause it would fit elsewhere, but that isn't a samba because there's no samba feel to it at all.... it's just fast double-bass notes.
I like the pianist definitely... excellent sounding progressions

oh i know it's not samba and that's why we called it that muahah. My pianist has been playing I thikn as long as I have, which is about 8 years.

Another example why piano/keys should be used more ofter in bands. Great.

Yeah, now my band should have a pianist. xD

why is everyone double posting?

poeticdrums

the web server has been running unusually slow today so people are clicking the post button twice and that's why there are double posts

Awesome...not sure about the drums though (need fixing).

Maybe you should call your band Midnight Samba....sounds like a catchy band name to me.

I think the song would be about 1000 times better without the double bass. Like, none at all. I really don't think it sounds good at all. You're a great drummer, but this song is definitely not the place for double bassin' it.

That's interesting. I actually think it's the double bass that makes the song. Oh well.

I really enjoyed the song though and more importantly, I'm showing this to my lead singer along with more evidence as to why we should have keys in our band.

This is original as hell. I like it a lot. Vey listenable, but I'm gonna be a sheep here and say some of the double bass is too much, but I think you should still keep some of it because it gives it a nice touch.

obviously talented musicians. very nice piano playing, reminded me of dream theatre, but yeah like everyone else i think the double bass is overdone a tad, but overall i really like the whole piece.

Haha, yeah, you love your double bass. Sounds great, I don't know how you could make it better, but maybe if you lay off the double bass  I don't know where though, because it's used a hell of a lot.

I'm not sure if this post is all sarcasm, or some positives with sarcasm, or neither

Nice!! I like it a lot. I like the drumming too. The drumming does sound like it belongs to harder metal type music, but that's why I think it's so cool. It made the piano song more... exciting.

It's got nothing to do with samba though lol. Maybe you're talking about the software samba, you know, the stuff that lets you link up Linux and Windows computers. Crap, I just gave away the fact that I'm a nerd.

lol. when i read the title i had to think of dresden dolls.

now listening to the song i have to think of even more dresden dolls :-)

... i dont think the piano player is all that good as some people have said, but that might just be becouse i have some really good piano players around me.

also, the drums sounded cool, just sometimes a tad chaotic.

... oh and. why does the track stop in the middle of the song? would like to hear the whole thing...

anyway. i really like it. stylewise etc. ... usually i delete stuff i download from forums after a couple of days. i guess this will stay on my harddrive though :-)

for some reason, everytime I hear that little entrance with the shaker and the howl, I imagine some dude in the corner masturbating. Don't ask why, but just picture it the next time you listen.

Hahaha yeah thanks for that moodoogaipan. Now I have nice mental images.

I have a Tama Rockstar Vintage Red kit.

22" Bass
14" snare
8, 10, 12, 13, and 16 " toms
14" Istanbul Mehemt Rock Hi-hats

Father Keel, I do not know why the song stops in the middle. It might be Pure Volume messed up when I was uploading it. If you would like the full songs just PM me and I'll get you a download.

Thanks again for all the comments
