i have never seen a thread about them... i just discovered them yesterday and they blew me away! they are such a great band.

they remind me a little bit of killing joke, who too are coming from the 80s era - so if anybody likes Killing Joke, he/she should check out Sisters of Mercy too!

oh, i forgot: they are (goth)-rock (imo)

recommended songs:
Temple of Love
Cry little Sister
This Corrosion
More
Alice

Ah yes, Sisters of Mercy. They insisted they were not Goth rock for a while, but they really were. They're still a staple band among Goth clubs, apparently. Not one night goes by at one of those places without Sisters of Mercy on the speakers.

I haven't listened to them in a while. I should dig up those mp3s again.

Goth rock bands are often a mixed bag in my opinion, but I'll check them out.

Well, if it's any help, the Sisters of Mercy were the catalyst into the second wave of Goth rock, which is when the music began moving away from the refined approach of The Cure and Bauhaus toward a much more sharp-edged sound. This essentially laid the groundwork for bands like Nine Inch Nails.

I was just thinking about doing an FA on this band...

Sisters of Mercy are one of my favourite not-quite-metal bands. I've got all their albums, I'm glad you've now discovered them too

Another essential track to listen to would be Alice

also check out Ribbons, Vision Thing, Black Planet, Marian and Lucrecia My Reflection

PS - It's This Corrosion :thumb:

oh, sorry; haven't knew that... it was wrong titled in my mp3list :/ (fixed it)

it would be grat to read an FA about SoM! do you listen to Killing Joke too? their album "night time" is one of my all time favourites ... i just love this album to death; so many beautiful memories connected with this album :)

i never listend much to 80s bands, but since killing joke and now SoM i think i should check out more of these bands (except the cure, pixies - don't know, but i don#t like them; are they the first wave of goth rock, how you said!? maybe this could be reason i don't like them as much as i love killing joke and SoM)

The Cure, Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees, et al were the first wave of Goth Rock.

The Pixies are just plain post-punk.

Sisters of Mercy came about around the time of the 1st wave, but they inspired second wave bands.

Goth rock is kinda irritating in a bunch of bands, but there's a few decent ones...

This band sounds interesting. Anybody know where I can get some mp3s of theirs?

I don't know what the point of calling them "Goth rock" is other than that there's no other label that fits them...see the problem with labelling everything, is that people hear they're a "goth band" and assume they suck and just whine a lot or whatever.

Anyway, I didn't know anybody else had ever heard of them. They're pretty great, or at least from 1985 on (their stuff before that was crap). I just ordered First and Last and Always, Floodland and Vision Thing the other day, coincidentally.

It's too bad they've been defunct and haven't released any new songs since Under the Gun in 93. That's a great song though.

By the same token, when you label something metal, people will hear that and dismiss the band as just another loud Metallica clone with low-quality musicianship and screaming about a lot of angry topics.

You label something punk and some people are going to think it's just another group of British guys going off on tirades about how it sucks to be poor and right-wing politicians are scum.

You get the idea.

i finished uploading some songs, so if anybody want to have it and listen to them write your email down, or write me an mail (repcak@gmx.at) and i will send the link.

It would be better to write me an email, because the discussion will be lost and instead the thread will transform into a mailing-list (i do not want this)

It's going fine, I've been posting a lot lately though so I don't know why you wouldn't have seen me.

I ordered SoM's three albums the other day, when I get them I'll AIM them to you.

Repcak, you should upload all the songs that aren't on any albums, like the Temple of Love 1992 remix (which is way better than the crap original) and Under the Gun.

Also, everyone make sure not to buy "Some Girls Wander by Mistake." It's a collection of singles and stuff from before SoM started making albums and before they were any good at all. It sucks.

I think More and Cry Little Sister are probably on the Some Girls collection. Lucretia is a good one.

I'm digging Temple of Love right now

What's up with the 8 minute version of Lucretia? The one I had before was only 6.

Marian is an awesome song. The bad production just works perfectly. I love the German verse too.
