View Full Version : =o omg WTF happend

My the finish of my bass-drum had a HUGE ( dom famularo huge) cut in it.
No one could have touched my kit and i'm very sure it didn't bump into something , could it just crack all by itself?
Luckely the wood itself was not damaged , but i would like to get it fixed.
Whats the best way to do it? :upset:
( btw my kit is a Gretsch Blackhawk with 22" bass-drum)

Someone must have done something, they're denying it.
My kit is at home in MY music room wich is locked with a key I and only I have
so that couldn't be possible

Weird. My only guess is a drop in temperature caused the wrap to shrink, causing it to be too small for the actual drum, causing it to crack. Not such a big deal though, easy enough to replace. Just buy a new wrap online, OR, this is a sign that you should refinish your drums

Thats weird because it looks like a smooth cut.
How much would a wrap cost? and would this be hard to place on yourself?

How old is the kit?
Call Gretsch, tell them they did a shoddy job and wrap on your kick is coming off. At worst case, they'll tell you exactly how to fix it. Best case, they send you a new kick drum.
Depending on the age, that's covered as manufacturer defect.
I bought it about 9 months agoo , and i bought it new so....

Yeah I would say maybe something to do with temperature either too hot or too cold. I've "melted" my bass drum a few times in my car - now in some places it has wrinkles.

One time a couple of years ago, I came home to find all my cymbals gone! I found out (several excrutiating hours later) that my mother had borrowed them to the drummer of a band that was playing in town.. WITHOUT my permission!!

you you could refinish or you could even order a full set of wraps in a new colour for your whole kit...that would be sweet and easier than refinishing with better, more accurate results...

If the drums are only 9 months old they should be under warranty. The only reason they wouldn't cover it would be if they would protest it due to temperature variances.
Well i'm going to the store today ,...
Normaly i go bye bike but i don't think my bass-drum would fit in my back-pack so my dad offered to take me. I'm gonna take my warranty card with me
( it still lasts for 2 months ) and ill give it a try.
Anyways i think i'm to unexperienced to refinish my whole kit , so if they arn't gonna fix it for free , i'm just gonna leave it. ( for now )
