Hi!,
I have just sold my yamaha set and am in search of some new drums, i only want a 5 pc set up, shell pack would do fine and i would like to spend between £500 and £600.
Accepting that as with all instruments, personal preference always plays a part in these desicions - i would like to know what you would say represents genuine value... if you could spare me a few minutes that is!
Thanks!
ray.

The obvious choices in that price range would be Mapex Pro-M, M-Birch (cheaper) or Premier Artist (choice of maple or birch), and of course the Sonor Force 2005 (birch) and 3005 (maple) series.

A couple of months ago I replaced my Rockstar with a Pro-M Stomp kit (BIG sizes) and I have to say I'm very impressed with the kit - the bass (24x18) is just awesome. Flawless finish and great hardware too.

Definitely the Pro-M over the gretsch. I so wish i got the pro m over the catalina birch but both are awesome kits. The pain on the cb is a PAIN IN THE *** though. at the end of the day, id say the pro-m.

lol well i just picked up a catalina birch, tried out a pro-m and it was good but too expensive, i toyed with the idea of saving some cash but the impulse buyer in me, coupled with the quality of the catalina (great heads out of the box btw, g1's and an eq4) soon prevailed! However very pleased with the gretsch, i agree the mounting system isnt as good as yess but its solid and flexible enough for my needs. thanks again for all the advice!
