Don't forget the Premier Artist Birch, and the good ol' Tama Starclassic Performer.

I couldn't find any links for the premier's but I know they're great kits

I didn't recommend the Tama's because of the Starcast mounts and the awful customer service I keep hearing about

Yeah, but he's an Aussie, and Damo reckons Aussie Tama customer service is top banana.

It's the US side that seems to cause all the grief on here.

Starcast mounts work just fine - (although they could be prettier), and Starclassic Performer shells are good.

I wouldnt reccomend the tamas at all... There are far to many superior drum kits with better hardware and design out there.

Sonor Force 2005, Mate. Pro-Audio has them retailing in 5-piece fusion sizes for approx. $1600.

That sounds a lot. How many Aussie dollars to a pound these days?

2005s don't have a very good hi-hat stand, the finish isn't everyone's cup of tea, and the snare is merely average. A Starclassic Performer would kick its arse right off.

A starclassic performer in australia would be at least 2k.

He says he's got $2k aus. to spend, so it's an option.

Man, I tried the 2005 and it was amazing. If I dont end up getting a custom kit, I am definitely getting a big set-up of 2005s.

2005s don't have a very good hi-hat stand, the finish isn't everyone's cup of tea, and the snare is merely average. A Starclassic Performer would kick its arse right off.And is twice as expensive. Come on man, get your head out of the clouds, the guy is asking for a kit that less than 2k Aussie dollars, a Performer is more than 2k Canadian dollars, and we get awesome prices on everything drum related.

the tama starclassic performer is around $3000 at least (i think).
i've looked around and im thinking of getting one of these:
1) 5pc mapex m birch (comes with a free 8" tom and a 6 piece gig bag set)
$1699
2) 5pc gretsch catalina birch (comes with a free 8" tom) $1999
3) 5pc pdp fs series around $1700

OR even though its not a birch kit should i just get the 5pc mapex pro m (free gig bags worth $250) $1899

if you were to choose one of those 3 options which one would u pick?

my current kits is a 5pc ashton would one of those options be a great upgrade

Mapex > PDP > Gretsch. Mapex and PDP are close though.

Playwithfire is right...as usual

Go for either the M Birch(or Pro M if you can spend the extra money)or the PDP FS kit. Both are great kits and are worth your money for sure :thumb:

Yep can't go wrong with either of those choices!

The M birch is a nice kit, same with the 2005. Like half life said if you have the money the pro m is a great kit too.

I didn't know the prices - I did say that, there's no need to be rude.

If the Tama is so much more, then no, it can't be in the running.

The Premier Artist series is still worth a serious look - they're great drums, have good hardware, nice finishes and are available in a huge range of sizes, including the usual suspects and bigger sets with 24" and even 26" kicks, if that appeals to you.

I can help here. Been there, done that, came away with a catalina birch for 1999 aud. Honestly, go for the M-Birch. The mounting seriously rapes the grestch. Also, do u intend the 1999 budget to include cymbals and in which part of australia are u located?
