I am currently looking for an extremely good bass drum pedal and am willing to spring for whatever has the most amount of awesome.

Now, clearly I am going to try before I buy but I would like it if some of you guys could give your opinions on some really high end single kick pedals, I am currently looking at the DW 9000 pedal myself due to it being extremely smooth, customizable and having velcro on the bottom to keep my bass drum (which on its current pedal the Ludwig Speed King, slides forward about an inch or more per kick) from sliding.

But thats where all you guys come in, could you give me some suggestions for high end single kick pedals? Now if it's not really classified as "high end" due to its price and the such but is still very awesome I'd like to hear about it.
Thanks.

Also I would like to add that I have no real preference of Dual/Single chain, Nylon or Direct drive.

The DW 9000 is an awesome pedal, worth every cent. You might also want to check out Axis pedals at Axis Percussion (http://www.axispercussion.com) and Musicians Friend (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=perc/navigation?N=100001+304797+202032&page=1). They are also very, very good pedals, extremely smooth.

...5000 is all you could ever want. 9000 has the gadgets, but that's just more to breakdown. 5000 has double chain or strap, choice of drives, velcro, smooth, and still customizable and you save a wad of bones. I love 5000s and wouldn't recommend a 9000 to anyone as they are almost unaffordable. If you like flaunting how much money you have though, go for it, 9000s are nice pedals.

even the 7000's have velcro on the bottom.

Well there are the Iron Cobra, Axis pedals, the eliminator, and the dw 5000 and 9000. I personally like the feel of the dw 5000, it is cheaper than the 9000 but not as custom, although that isn't a bad thing as pwf said it is more to break on the pedal. I would go and check all of the pedals I listed and pick which one you feel most comfortable with.

Oh, yes I forgot to mention that I had 7002s awhile ago but they broke down, I did not like them whatsoever either way.

Flying Dragons will go on you, they have some retarded features that just add to the weakness of the pedal.

really? i liked the feel of them but i dont know much about them.

They feel fine, they are unstable though. Screws will strip and you'll grow to hate the collapse-frame.

ah i see. oh well i love my 7000's anyway. :D

Of course you do. Because DW makes fine pedals (7000 and up).

My favorite Pedal is the Iron Cobra by tama. They may not make prominate drums but the Iron Cobra is nothing short of excellent! Very smooth and very adjustable....looks great too

But DW 9000's are great too, and look just as good.

Personally, I find Iron Cobras to be the worst of the big 3.

Not worth it....

For that money Axis is FAR better and don't leave out Sonor Giant Step double as good as the Axis!

Otherwise consider an Elim

Sonor Giant Steps are a rip off, and so are Axis. You don't need gimmick pedals to pedal well. What a waste of cash.

You obviously didn't have either of those pedals for an extended amount of time.... (as in months...)

But hey he has the money to flaunt.. so why not?

Word, though. A 5000 will suffice.

axis, IMO, are ridiculously overpriced. youd do just fine wiht any other pedal. people buy into the gear makes the drummer on that one.

It's because the whole thing is machined.

You obviously didn't have either of those pedals for an extended amount of time.... (as in months...)Whatever you say, whatever makes you sleep better at night. Just keep thinking that your gear will make you a better player...

9000's are great pedals. I own several sets of them. They preform flawless, are more adjustable than any pedal I have ever owned and I have never had an issue with them.

In my opinion the only pedals that compete with them are the Long Board Axis pedals, and the new Trick CNC machined pedals.

Vintage Ludwig Speedking. Ohhh yeah. Not a single ajustable part. No stuff to spend hours ajusting just so you can play .0253 bpm faster.

Show off! :(

I'd go for the 5000s if I were you, the 9000s always felt too smooth for me.

As for The Axis pedals, I never like dthe feel of them.
And the Sonor giant steps are good, but massively overpriced.

The smoothest pedal I've ever played was a DW 9000. Now, I will admit that my usual pedal isn't great, but I've tried the big 3 at my local drum shop, and the usual 3 (Elim, IC, 5000) were excellent, but the 9000 didn't feel like a pedal, it felt like an extension of my being.

FL3P
12-09-2005, 03:41 PM

Does the yamaha flying dragon have velcro underneath or is that just a base to make it look more "professional" ? Plus whats this I see about a "collapse frame" ?

IMO it's a bit of a rip and overpriced.

I garuntee you won't play any better on a 9000 then a 5000.

Definitely, they'll hold up as well as an Iron Cobra, I don't care what anyone says. You need to smash it with a hammer.

Is it really worth the extra cash to get the upgrades that the 9000 offers over the 5000?

FL3P
12-10-2005, 09:31 AM
Well the good thing about the 9000 is that you can adjust it to be an accelerator, turbo or nylon strap among many other things. If you like a very smooth pedal and al the choices you could ever want then thats a good choice but if you know what setup you like and you want something you can feel under your foot then the 5000 is it.

You should pick what works best, it's not like you'll end up changing your mind, unless you just bought it off the internet . Aside from that, who the hell cares about the adjustable cam? Does anyone really think that being able to set the pedal in between offset and round is going to increase their speed or comfort by any means? What a gimmick.
