I'm planning on building a custom Electric drumkit in the comming month or two, and I was curious if anyone here had any experience with this sort of thing. I think I have a pretty good idea of what I'm doing, but I thought perhaps someone has already done this and had some advice.

I'm planning on buying an 18" by 10" shell, cutting it into 4.5" sections, and doing the edges, finish, etc, then building a bridge of some sort across two lugs in each drum to mount the triggers on with peiso pickups and rubber foam cones. Using meshheads, and going to buy a fairly inexpensive head unit from ebay, as well as rubber gum cymbals.

If anyone has experience with Edrum building, advice would be appreciated, otherwise i will try to update my progress and perhaps write a tutorial of sorts when (if) i sucessfully complete the project.

Thanks!

I have absolutely no experience whatsoever in this sort of thing...but it sounds like an interesting project man, good luck. Also, I think this may have been better off in the Gear and Media section.

Perhaps a picture is really worth a thousand words...

I happen to know a fair amount about the subject....As far as the drum goes, you really do not need to give the shell as much attention as you may think as far as edges and such, because you will only be putting mesh heads. What you do want to do, however is make sure the bearing edge is smooth, and run a router by it to make sure it is smooth, however the degree and qualit of the edge is really not as important as if the drums were going to be acoustic.

Also, notice the picture has a piezo attatched to the shell. In theory, this should provide a rim sound as well, and both the head trigger and shell trigger can be hooked up to a stereo jact to combine both triggers in to one output.

Any specific questions you have concerning modules, or anything else, feel free to ask.

Also, I suggest you do a fair amount of reading beforehand. A great forum for this sort of thing is the forums over at www.edrumming.com ...go in to the DIY section of the forum, and you will find a plethora of information.... Good luck...
