ok so iv been playin bass for a bout a year yet i dont have one, i play my friends all the time, and im actually pretty good, not braggin i hate bragging but i just didnt want you to think im just starting out, anyway im goin to be investing in a 5 string bass soon and and need a suggestion on an amp because i know nothing of bass amps, now i would just buy a little 35w or something but the little knowledge i do have tells me that a little 8 or 10 in. speaker will not handle the low B string so i need a suggestion, is alesis an ok brand? they have cheap prices but are they any good at all?

It sounds to me like you just want a practice amp, and aren't really concerned about tone as much as it making sound.

An 8 or 10 inch speaker will do a B wel enough for you to hear it (my crappy little 15 watt crate can handle my B). It won't sound particularly good, but it'll suffice for practice.

Warwick make some smaller combo amps that have a killer sound.

No gigs?

Then a practise amp like Ibanez (which make good amps, also tonewise) will do the job. Just try out a lot of amps with your basses. Also check the amps with 5 strings. An 8 or 10" speaker should be able to carry the low B. It's all about the tuning..
