Can anyone play this or know anyone who can play this on bass? I've been learning it and would like to hear how one would play it on bass.

The range is huge and it would be hard to get all the tapping and such... maybe it's a good project for you to arrange it for e. bass?

There is only a little bit of the song that would be affected by the range. What do you mean e. bass?

E. bass = Electric bass
I'm assuming that you're talking about Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor.
The opening bit ranges 3 octaves. From a High A (if you have a High C string you're fine or tune in fifths) down to a low C#. Anyway I just tried playing it, it's alright if you have a 5 string, but if you don't you're kinda in trouble. Maybe tune in 5ths.
I stand corrected... after you play the diminished arpeggio up and play that little riff, then it goes up an octave, way off your bass. You'll need a 6 string to get the begining.
ok, here (http://www.freewebs.com/supernaut/billysheehan.htm) is a bit of Billy Sheehan playing it; and here (http://www.freewebs.com/supernaut/fugueindminortapped.htm) is some guy tapping some of it.
enjoy. :-*

Ya, I'm doing it on an electric. I have a 5 string but I'm going to use my 4 string. The intro I can do just by tapping a harmonic.
I can play what Sheehan does of it. I don't know all of what the other guy does but with that video it will be easy to figure out.

I liked that guy's version a lot better than Sheehan's.
The song itself is 9 minutes long. People normally focus on that part, but theres a lot more to it.

^ Ya. With what I've learned so far(which is about a minute), there is only one part that is giving me trouble.

I'm in shock, and I gotta remember that guys tips so I can relay them to my bass player to help him learn tapping.

yeah, it sounds cool. although personally, i think his EVH style of tapping is stupid. "the meaty hook" thing he does, stacking his index and middle finger, is completely unecessary, and makes for a less dexterious technique.

I find it a lot easier to just use either my pointer or middle finger to tap. Just using one allows you to be able to tap more notes at the same time and if I stick my middle finger on my pointer my hand feels unbalanced.

Exactly, but it still sounds better than Sheehan's. Really, one should be able to do what he's doing without the "meaty hook", and instead with all four fingers unaided in your right hand, including pinky.

I, like the term meaty hook. I'm not a big fan of tapping... T and F is a very difficult song to play, even on piano, so I would say it's going to be fairly difficult for bass, but after seeing the tapping guy, i may learn it just to do that little section... anyway... yeah

Heh, does that guy have some weak fingers or what. He must be a pick player. ;)
