i've tabbed out a couple of beats i practiced and will be using with some songs. i've figured out the counting for all but the last one. the first three seem to most logically be in 12/8, or at least in "1+a" counting.

can someone come up with a counting method for the last one, or at least tell me what time signature it's in?

XX|1+a2+a3+a4+a|
HH|x--x--x--x--|
SN|-gg-g----o--|
BD|o----o--o---|

XX|1+a2+a3+a4+a|
HH|x--x-----x--|
SN|-gg-ggogg-gg|
BD|o-----------|

XX|1+a2+a3+a4+a|
HH|x--x-----x--|
SN|-gg-g-ogg-g-|
BD|o----o-----o|

XX|????????????????????????|
HH|x--xx-x--xx-x--xx-x--xx-|
SN|-gg---ogg----gg---ogg---|
BD|o----o-----oo----o-----o|

I would think of it as semi-quaver triplets (1-trip-let-and-trip-let-two-trip-let-and-trip...)

hmm, that seems pretty damn complicated

I soon got uised to it, don't try to count it out loud though, only in your head. It's good because it follows on from 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +.

so would that beat be in 4/4?

It's simply a half-time shuffle, in 4/4.

It doesn't seem to bad man.

I've never learnt triplet time or anything like that, but it makes sense to use the trip-let idea.

See, if it was in doubles or quadruples, it would be 1-e-and-a-2-e-and-a etc.

Instead, this is how you do it:

(trp = trip)

XX|1 trp let 2 trp let 3 trp let 4 trp let|
HH|x---------x---------x---------x--------|
SN|---g---g-----g----------------o--------|
BD|o----------------o---------o-----------|

Think of how you would practice your triples when doing rudiments.

Hope that helps, and hopefully I'm not undermining your intelligence.
