Has anyone ever thought of or seen a say.... 15 x 12 Marching snare proped up with floor tom legs and used as a aux snare. I really like the sound of marching snares and they are decently priced. I think this would really add expression to my kit but i dont know if i should do this..i have looked into it a bit but havent found anything on it. I mainly dont want to go out and waste my money on a marching snare and it not sound good with my kit. Any Ideas guys???

Never seen it. Honestly, it's something I would never do. I hate the sound of marching snares. It's just obnoxious and dead.

Actually, for metal, marching snares sound perfect.

Well i really dont plan on using one as my Main snare... i was planing on putting it next to my 14" rack tom..... and the band i am in is Very progressive Metalish
And the marching snares i have heard are Very deap sounding not dead at all....

A marching snare on drumset is not something I would recommend.

Uhh..yeah, the point of the snare in most metal is to cut through the music to allow the rest of the band to stay in time when things are getting very fast.

No, those are something that most people do recommend and enjoy.

Marching snares are so one-dimensional, and don't really add anything you couldn't achieve with a small piccolo.

Marching snares also have a different way of being played.

i have a marching snare that i occasionally use for an aux snare, but it's really hard to incorporate it in. where my snare drums ring out, the marching snare is way too staccato to fit in with my main snare, so when i use it, it's generally used as my "main" snare, off to the side. a downside to the depth of the drum, though, is that it's generally too high sitting on a stand. i have my stand as low as it will physically go, and it's still just a bit too high to play it comfortably.

there's not really a whole lot that you can coax out of a marching snare. it's very one-dimensional, which serves it's purpose well as a marching snare, but not as a drumset snare.

Marching snares are... Meant for marching.

I don't suggest using one.

I have a pipe band snare, which is basically a marching snare, just higher pitched. It's a high tension set up with a kevlar batter head. I used it in a song for my old band once, but that was playing marching style stuff on it...I don't think it would sound good as an an aux snare though...
