I just won a 1968 Avedis Zildjian cymbal off ebay for 50 bucks! It looks kind of dirty from the pics though and i'm probably going to have to clean it up. Can anyone recomend me something to restore it back to its glory days?

i'd suggest not cleaning it too. if you really want to though soapy water will do the job just as good as any cymbal cleaner.
Why can't you clean cymbals ? I really want to clean mine , they are all dusty and stuff but when i use a towl it doesn't come of...

It's because his cymbal is really old, and the amount of dirt in it really warms up the tone.
I'm talking about my PST3

Then just give it a rub over with an old towel that has a little bit of Paiste cymbal cleaner on it.

Dust <> dirt. I just use my mums feather duster to get the dust off, then I use Groove Juice cymbal cleaner on them.

i cleaned the drummer in my bands old ride with a car buffer and car buffing compound, it was litterally solid green and brown before i clean it when i got done it look brand new and it didnt sound as dead either, i would suggest it to anybody that has an old ****ty looking cymbal cause it works 10 times better than the cymbal cleaning **** that you buy at music stores

When your cymbal has a nice even patina.. it gives it SOO much character. I really dont know why some people decide to clean this great corrosion. I guess if you want a brighter sounding cymbal.... but all you would have to do is go out and buy a new one... considering Patina take about 5-10 years.. to get it nice. Some people put their cymbals in in the ground for a week or so and there are other methods to get patina..... but regular age gives it the most character.

I need to clean my cymbals :upset:
For anyone who is using lots and lots of cymbal cleaner yes soap works but sometimes I just use warm water and give the cymbal a good scrub with a "special" towel  I'll use SABIAN cymbal cleaner when I'm lazy though :p
