Do they have a different tone than normal toms? Or do they just provide a quicker attack? Are they higher pitched? Your views please. Thanks.:thumb:

They aren't as loud, that I know. I also beleive that they have the same tuning range as regular toms.

these FAST toms are creating a smorgasbord of disscussion today.

No kidding. Anyway, I prefer them. You don't lose much sustain or projection, but you can a bit of attack. Worthy trade imo.

For toms above the bass they are great for getting them lower, which is the main reason why they're made.
But they have been taken to the extreme though with OCDP etc doing the 10x5", 12x6", 14x8" sizes which looks and sounds sh!te.

There are a lot of drum companies who do stuff like that. "Traditional" sizes... are 7"x10", 8"x12"... There is barely a difference between what is traditional and what the short toms are.

Its a bit exteme, but it seems ok, with a bit of tweaking. It'd be nice to have a 10x6, 12x8, and 14x10. And an 18x14 bass :p

a matter of personal opinion. that and it being a cb700 that i cannot refinish (the wrap is stuck on and the glue is..in a weird condition)

After watching the "Alive at Red Rocks" DVD and seeing Jose play on his DW kit with those fast sized toms, I must say they look awesome. I guess the only downside would be that they wouldn't project as much considering they're not as big as regular drums, but seeing that Jose's kit was mic'd I don't think that would have been a problem
maybe the fact that its a CB has more to do with it sucking than its dimensions? just a thought... :thumb:

altho i used trads for many many years, i was never really happy with them. i was always wanting just a little more (depth) out of them. FAST toms make me happy, even tho im using smaller toms :)
its one of the very few modern items that i appreciate so dont take that away from me ;)

oh get off that mentality. its not a top of the line, but i had it tuned very decently once i got some coated ambs over clear ambs on it

^ My friend got new heads for his CB kit, tuned it up real nice, and it sounded better than my DW kit when it has old heads on it.

Well it's completely assinine to be of the mentality that you can't make a pro drum sound bad (and yes, I *have* seen people post that on here ).
A well-tuned drum will *always* sound better than a poorly tuned one, whether the well-tuned drum is entry-level and the poorly-tuned drum is professional or not.

Sounds like you should learn to tune. Old heads won't make a whole lot of a difference when comparing them to new heads but tuning will.
I like fast toms 8x10 9x12 11x14 13x16. Thats where its at man.

Thats when tuning goes from tuning to hoping for the best.

There is a MASSIVE difference between tuning new heads and old heads. 2 year old heads will be stretched to eff and have no tone left in them... when you are relying on good tuning for a good sound, having p.o.s. heads doesn't help dude... come on.
Ouch.. new head time!
I dig the fast sizing, though it was around and used before DW marketed it. They just kind of brought a lil light to a less then popular size during the 80's-mid90's.

Ya I realize that. Sorry I must have misunderstood his post. I thought he ment old but still decent heads. I could get a fine sound of heads like that, but yes a horribly stretched out head has a crappy tone.

The heads I had at the time were a year old haha
The point is though, the CBs really sounded good with fresh ambs.
edit: Hmm, this reminds me it's time for new heads all around again.
