Most 'active' basses are indeed that. Not many actually have active pickups, just the EQ itself.

MachinesofHate hit the nail on the head. It's got passive pickups, but an active EQ. However, don't let this deter you from the bass at all - I got mine a few years ago and it sounds friggin fantastic with any amp I put it through (especially my 200W Yorkville :) ) and gets a delicious little subtle crunchy growly fuzz.
Mmm. I loves it :)
Good luck with it, if you get one!

kk thanx for the help.
do u have to have a 9volt battery for an active circuit or is that just for pickups?

The battery powers the EQ circuit - since the pickups are passive !

don't let the fact that it needs a battery deter you from buying the bass. As long as you don't leave it plugged in when not in use, the battery will last months.

hmmmm i want to say SUB but im an ibanez man, (well since i bought my SR900 a month ago) but both are quality instruments, id go ibanez though because it would be cheaper and would meet your requirements well enough id say, and man if you get the ibanez go for the red rock sunburst finish
Hawt..
