I have been looking for a new bass amp for a while now and for ages i wanted to get an Ashdown MAG C210T-300 Combo. I was recently looking at laney amp's and realised for the same amount of money i could purchase a Laney R4H (head)- with a r115 cabinet. The guitarist's in my band also use Laney and their amp's sound great but then again two of my mates both use Ashdown electric blue amp's and their amp's sound great as well. I am not necessarily looking exacly for the amp's i have mentioned (laney R5 looks nice as well). It is mainly the choice between Ashdown or Laney????

ashdowns are much beter, laneys will do for passive, 4 string rock, thats about it.

The laney R4 is great. it works brilliantly with my bass that has an active preamp. All my local shops have stopped selling the MAG series Ashdowns. As I have mentioned before they have been renamed crashdowns as they are unreliable (I know Ashdowns aren't usually but these supposedly are). the R4 also has the 7 band graphic mid which gives great tone possibilities.

Yep, I own an R5 and generally what he said. It's got an amazingly punchy sound which I love!

I played a few Ashdowns at Andertons and didn't like them much.

well my personal opinion is that the ashdown will **** on any Laney... but it's down to personal preference about tone in the end i guess. I've never had any reliability issues with Ashdowns at all

i have never personally played through an Ashdown but when i hear other people playing through them they sound awesome, on the other hand though i own a Laney R3 and my god its a sexy amp :naughty:

so really i guess its down to you and which you prefer ;)

I have an Ashdown and it is excellent for me. Some people don't like them though as they produce quite a warm tone. Reliability wise though, it's fine.

hey, youre near to andertons? awesome, ive just got accepted (litterally, just now opened the confirmation letter) to the ACM, and are a regular visitor to said shop :D

i liked the ashdowns i played, but ive heard many a story about them being unreliable, though i couldnt justify that myself

i've had the mag 300h head for 3 or 4 months now... haven't had a problem or anything close to one. i also love the tone i get out of it.
