OPERATION IVY is the definitive collection from the ska-punksters who helped lay the groundwork for the commercial success of such '90s bands as Green Day and Sublime. the range of musical styles into which the band ventures is awesome.

I really loved Op Ivy for awhile, then I just stopped listening to them, then listened again and loved them again. I bought their CD completely on a whim because the name looked interesting.

The only OpIvy covers I've heard are Yellin' In My Ear by The Suicide Machines, Unity by Reel Big Fish, Sound System by Big D & The Kids Table, Freeze Up by the Hippos, Knowledge by Green Day, and Bankshot by The Chinkees.

I think my favourite is The Hippo's cover of Freeze Up. :cool:

I've never listened to this Green Day cover before. It's really good and it sounds like it was recorded back in their Gilman days.

I think there was talk of submitting the mx punk band cover to them, I think I might.

Green Day helped Lookout gain lots of popularity, as did Op Ivy. Both were part of the Gilman St Berkeley scene, Green Day just got big and Op Ivy broke up.

The US is far from the largest country in the world. And I disagree about the smart part. I'm sure you have to have some sort of intelligence to operate a country, but Bush has done so many things wrong and that the population disagreed with that he's made himself look horrible. The whole of Energy is awesome - no bad songs at all IMO. Sure it would have been great to see a couple more albums to see them experiment a bit more, but i'm still not over Energy so its fine by me. From what i've heard of Rancid, they don't seem to have the flair that Op Ivy did.

i think that if op ivy stayed around they would have exploited them to the bitter ends and they would be putting out crappy pop music and eventually the music that they started with would not be thier music anymore. Rancid is a good band and all but what i have generalized above is basically wat happened to them.

I'm kind og glad they ended that fast. If they didn't they would just **** up sometime. Always stop on the top. I think it's cool that they have made one great album. Energy left us with a need for more, I like that:)

I don't know, if you don't like Operation Ivy by now and you have truly listened to them (I mean not just skipping around songs and such), then you probably won't get into them. For me, I instantly fell in love with them.
