hey, i'm looking into this special addition Bleach Blonde Thumb Bolt On, i can get it for about $1500 and it's about a year and a half old. The guy says it's in good condition but i'm not sure what to do. I love the features on it including the fret inlays (the 19th and 21st frets have wolves), which i don't think are even on the current models of the thumb. I have also wanted a thumb for some time now because i've been trying to acheive the tone Dirk Lance uses on Fungus Amongus and no matter what i do i can't get it right. Im just wondering if 1500 is worth a year and a half old bass.

It also comes with a hardshell case and and certificate of authenticity saying it's the 3rd of 328 ever made or something

i am pretty sure dirk lance played a 5 string streamer for fungus amungus, and if its in good condition its still a bit high for a bolt on thumb. offer him 1000 for it, unless you in canada then offer him 1200 for it

Yea i know its a bit over priced but I like the fact that its limited edition and has fret inlays...but i was looking on ebay and i saw a few thumbs going for like 900 so i guess ill look into that too...also i was looking at soem site that said D.L. had both a 4 and 5 thumb so i figured thats what he used but your probably right, it's not osmething i really looked into (however i love the way any warwick sounds)

I was also wondering, because i have never actually or held a warwick..how heavy they are compared to..say an ibanez sr 4 string, and also...do they have the little dots on the side istead of the fret inlays or just none at all? because they help my playing alot and if there not there im going to look for models that only have them like the streamer stage II (despite waiting another year to save up the money for it if i cant find it at a good price)

i am almost entirerly positive dirk used streamers and not thumbs, but yeah i guess 1500 isnt that bad for a limited edition

warwicks have dots on the sides, most dont have inlays although this one does, they are neck heavy specially the thumbs. that big wenge neck can get tirersome sometimes, tho i have never played the bleached blonde(the reason i say this it doesnt use the conventional woods warwick normally does) so it may be lighter who knows.

Well, the bleach blonde is quite different from a regular thumb since the entire thing is made out of maple. I've played one(hung in a local shop for quite a while) and while it seemed a bit lighter than a regular thumb it just didn't have that Warwick sound to me. It was very bright and could get nasal in the higher register. It did look impressive though.
1500 is way overpriced though, they're not that old and were not all that sought after. I've seen a few on the used market here in Germany so I'd say anything above 1100 dollars is a ripoff.

do u think it will have that trademark sound if it doesn't use the same wood? Also i dont play many gigs i just love to jam with friends and record stuff so if im not standing up half the time-do u think weight will be a big issue? (i'm sorry for so many questions but it's very hard for me to tell if i want this or not because ive neevr seen one in real life other than at a concert)...and by the way your right he deos use the streamer i just looked it up...how is the sound different between the thumb and streamer? (sorry again)

EDIT: Mitchell thanks that helped me out alot..i think im gunna go with the regular thumb on ebay (not being sarcastic i know it looks it though, but what you said about the sound was a huge help because that was one of my biggest worries)

i'd stay away from that latter thumb bolt on. the guy that listed it posted pictures (in a sale for the same bass that got shut down) that definitely weren't of the bass he's selling-- several showed mike flynn's (talkbass member) neck-though thumb bass and several were ripped off of bass northwest's website that showed a fretless thumb bolt on (which is definitely not what he/she is selling). something sketchy is going on with that.

I emailed the guy who posted the wrong pictures and he took off the item and put it back on with current pictures and it looks all good..plus he said hes starting it at 900 and if no one bid more then than he'll give it to me for the 800 originally advertised as...plus insurance and ship[ping which would make a totla of 930..which i think is a good deal for this bass..the pictures show no detrimental signs of damage
