I just found this on EvilBay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Superb-Shine-SBA-526-six-6-string-fretless-bass_W0QQitemZ7371812477QQcategoryZ4713QQrdZ1QQcmd ZViewItem

Shine SBA-526 6 string fretless.

http://i8.ebayimg.com/01/i/05/a3/df/ed_12_sb.JPG

Anyhow, my question is it worth getting this as a first 6 string? I've never played a six or fretless, so your guys input will be helpful.

Cheers

Will :smoke:

It's not worth it, nice looking bass though...

I don't mind the "look" of the user, 100% feedback and all. I think flatwounds would be prefered to his rounds though.

I like the look of it, plus it's not too expensive.

Jaco played a six string?

EDIT: No, 40 pounds isnt worth a new bass.

Ebay is becoming scam-filled. Watch out.

And no, i don't think its worth it.

Better off ordering a brice or something...

We don't get Brices over here :(

Can someone say why it isn't worth it, I'm probably being thick, but no-one's given me a real reason.

Cheers

Shine? Ive never heard of the brand. Thats one reason.

You could always buy it and see what its like...

I've played Shine guitars, including a couple of hollowbodies and it played fine, the construction was tidy and of good quality.

It's just whether a 6 string fretless is the bass thing to start fretless bass on?

^ In that case, go for it ;)

I dont think starting on a fretless 6er could do you any harm whatsoever.

You should go for it. Even if it is crap, you paid next to nothing for it.

i think u should start on a fretless w/ lines if you want get a fretless. if you want get a 6er, start with a fretted one. you dont want to totally trek new ground in both aspects at once, because you will most likely turn away from both ideas, when really u were just taking in to much at once.

seems scammy... how did he take such professional pics? and why would he sell at like a 90% loss?

umm because it hasnt met its reserve yet? its on 49 quid with reserve not met, meaning that even if noone else bid from now on, they couldnt win (im sure you knew that but thats not the point)

chances are the reserve is at at least 100, probably more

Why would you need a lined fretless first? If anything, an unlined fretless first would be better, so you don't become reliant on the lines.

I say if he wants to try a 6 string fretless, go for it.

Shine are a Korean brand, they aren't particularly well established, mainly because people see the cheap prices and make snap judgements.

From what I've heard, they aren't so bad. If you've had positive experience with the brand, then go for it.

It's probably quite cheap because the auction started low. It will probably increase to around £200, maybe a bit more.

Go for it - but pay no more than £150 :).

I think that statement could be a double-edged sword, because for stuff you've already learned (you own stuff, or somebody else's) eventually you won't need to look at the board at all..I've had a lined fretless for about a month and I hardly look at the board for songs I already know, but then again I'm not anybody else but myself so yeah.

Get an unlined or lined, doesn't matter which because you're still going to learn fretless anyway.

I've heard good things about shine, they're ment to be far better than the price suggests.

Get a fretless. Once you get one, you'll never go back to fretted. Not having the frets there to eat your hands up on slides and whatnot feels goood.

I like both my fretless and fretted as much as each other, although I go through periods of preferring one or the other.

OK, I think I'll go fretless

Yes, that's a given. However, if you start with an unlined fretless, your intonation will (most likely) get better, your ear will get better, and you'll probably be able to play without looking at your fingerboard in a shorter time, since you're relying on muscle memory from the start.
