A few days ago, I saw a link to a program or something that completely kills Norton and all the invasive parts. Anyone got the link, I could really do with it.

I would quite like to find this link too, my sister has Norton on her laptop and it doesn't want to go away.

i think from my work experience, that if your norton expires, it MAY cause problems with browsing to secure websites

You mean just uninstalling it isn't enough?

On my sisters laptop you can't uninstall it.
I've tried a few things to get rid of it, other than ending all the running processes and deleting the Norton program files. She had it pre-installed on her machine for a months free trial when she got it.

Uninstalling a lot of things is often not enough. In most cases, as a matter of fact. It's just what Norton leaves behind is sometimes pervasive and active. TS, try a good registry cleaner like CCleaner or HiJack this. Make sure to clear out onlly what you see from Symantec/Norton, though. If you P2P you can also pick up System Mechanic 6. Or perhaps pick it up on sale from somewhere. It has tools to clean files that are among the best I have ever seen. And the registry. My computer came with Nortan installed and I couldn't get rid of it all. Sometimes it would still communicate with my computer! System Mechanic 6 did the trick. Although it was infected with a worm, so I had to get rid of that, too.
EDIT: System Mechanic 6 is available as a trail. You really only have to use it once. I'll post back with a link.
EDIT 2:Linky (http://www.iolo.com/sm/6/download.cfm) :)
Use it with a bit of caution. It has some powerful tools packaged with it. They should all be available in the trial version. I think?

That's scary, assuming you've checked the Control Panel too. Have you checked the help file/manual for a way to uninstall it? I wanted to uninstall a firewall that didn't show up in the Add/Remove Programs menu once, and there were instructions on how to remove it in the user guide.
Also, have you tried looking in the Symantec program folder for an uninstall executable?

The first place I looked was the Control Panel, it doesn't show up in the Add/Remove Programs menu, she didn't get a manual for it either since it came with the computer and it's only a months trial version.
I'll have a look for the uninstall executable file next time I see her, it's not preventing her from using her laptop or anything, it's just annoyingly hard to uninstall.

RegCleaner has worked like a charm for everything I hadn't been able to delete.

You must be talking about SymNRT (ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/linked_files/tsgen/SymNRT.exe)
