Iron Maiden (sorta), Helloween, Dungeon, Manowar, Blind Guardian, Dragon Force, Stratovarius. All excedingly cheesy and yet i cant stop listening.
Paulo Jr. from Sepultura is a pretty kick *** player!
Uses a MIA Deluxe P as well :D

I love Megadeth's bass, Ellefson gets a really sweet tone. And the guy from Dragonforce is great too.

is System of a Down considered thrash metal?

no.

I'm listening to Sadus right now, very good stuff. Much respect for speed metal bassists who play audibly and don't use picks. Unlike Slayer for example, many times I wonder if Tom Araya even plugs his bass up. Oh well. Tom Angelripper used picks and distortion and still rules though.
power metal and system of a down= ambiguously gay

Although not thrash, Martin Mendez from Opeth is a great bassist. Johan DeFarfalla (from Opeth's "Orchid" and "Morningrise" records) is a good bassist as well. Mendez is on Still Life and every album after that.

still i have to agree a good bassist is Eddie Jackson from Queensryche, every song i have heard has had powerful tones and grooves to it.

F5 is no megadeth, but an alright band nonetheless. Ellefson is a huge influence on me, i'll follow whatever he does. His playing in megadeth was awesome, and although he mustaine wrote most of his stand out bass lines, his tone was kick ***. Mcdonough's tone isnt as good, well, when i saw them live it was real muddy even though he was using a pick.
If you are looking for awesome thrash metal i have three words.
Testament Testament Testament!
Amazing band and some awesome bass lines in songs like Disciples of the Watch and Practice What You Preach.
And whoever asked if SOAD was considered thrash metal, you have to be kidding me.

More of a modern thrash type sound, but Shadows Fall bassist Paul Romanko has great chops AND great tone.

Dude, I loved Anthrax. Frank Bello has great tone and some pretty decent chops. Love their stuff from the 90s, even if they "sold out". but "Anti-Social" and "Caught in a Mosh" still make me jump around like a lunatic whenever I hear them.

Which bass lines did Mustaine write? I'm guessing Peace Sells was one of them right?

^^^Most likely he wrote the majority of them since he was the main creative force in Megadeth. I wouldn't be suprised if Marty Freidman wrote a few of them as well, since while he was in the band (Rust in Peace through Risk) he was pretty active creatively as well.

So where Ellefson is credited for writing ie Lucretia etc is that when he wrote the bassline himself? Im quite dissapointed as one of the reasons I always liked Elefson over Newstead was that Newstead was incredibly controlled by Lars and Hetfield.

Its a shame that Newstsead was controlled the way he was cos listening to some random recordings at Chophouse records he could of written some amazing songs.

Kreator.
They've had two bassists, their first was Rob Fioretti, and their current one is Christian Geisler, both of whom have some stand-out basslines, not too extravagant or amazing, but some nice stuff.

Basically Metallica was Lars and Hetfields vision, so Newstead wasn't allowed to do anything against this vision. That's why he wrote so few songs for metallica, I mean even Kirk Hammet only had a real input on St Anger.(If some kind of monster is to be believed)

Well, Mustaine and Freidman pretty much wrote all the music on the Megadeth albums from Rust In Peace to Risk. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure Ellefson wrote his own basslines, but he wrote them to music that was already written and arranged by Mustaine and Freidman. Its quite possible that Ellefson had writing credits for some of the music, but to my knowledge he was not the main writer by any means.

I know for certain he did have his own credits, and in total more than Friedman I believe. He is also(I know its pretty much irrelevant) the only member to write lyrics(I think he wrote the lyrics to Foreclosure of a Dream) other than Mustaine.
Well I still enjoy the bass lines whoever wrote them, and props to Dave Jr for playing them.

Testament! Great bassing there.
For those interested in Extreme Power Metal...check out Kalmah as well. Great guitarists...keyboards...bass...drums...the vocals just aren't mixed too well. Not a big enough con to matter, though.

That's odd that he's listed more than Freidman, becuase Freidman is widely known for writing on the last few albums that he participated on. Specifically Risk, which was almost completely his concept.... not a good one IMO, but his none the less
Either way I adore Dave Jr. and Megadeth, so its all a bit of a moot point.

I think Dave Jr wrote more in total purely cuz he was in the band longer. But agreed Megedeth are awesoem regardless.
