Hey guys, my friend was thinking on getting a bass pedal. It's either an overdrive, or a synthesizer.
For those of you who have experience, tell me what you recommend, and what brand.
And also, maybe a good site with sound clips.

for a synth, get the digitech bass synth wah or the ibanez sb7. for overdrive, odb-3. there are quite a few more but what kind of music does your 'friend' play?

i'd say go for the ODB-3 for an overdrive. I can set mine to get almost any kind of overdrive I want. If you want plain distortion, I'd give the MXR M-80 a try. :thumb:

for real 'hardcore' distortion/overdrive, go for the ibanez pd7

Distortion. It's way more useful than synths, they can sound pretty dry.

you think so? hmmm.... i didnt think the digitech synth wah was dry at all, and especially not the roland synth. never had a chance to try out the boss one, really want to tho.

Apparently the boss synth isnt all that great.I find the digitech to be better sounding.
I think the distortion pedal would be of more use.The synth sounds cool, but it can be hard to into music.I would go for the ODB-3 for distortion.

I use Both the Boss ODB-3 Overdrive and a Electro Harmonix Russian Big Muff Pi Distortion/Sustainer. I Use both, I use the Muff more, its Crunchier and it morks great when you use alot of Mids.
If i played metal i'd use the ODB-3, but i dont play metal, so i sue the Muff, but he may be able to get a tone he likes out of the muff, its versatile in my eyes.

Another plug for the Digitech. I use it and an Akai Deep Impact. Similar effects, but quite different sounds.

American Big Muff
Zvex Wooly Mammoth
Guyatone 'The Fuzz'
Those would be my three choice if you want insane fuzz.
For overdrive, the Boss would be fine, or a Digitech Bad Monkey.
