I'm not a smart person:(. I'm trying to put midi files on a burnt cd so that I can listen to them elsewhere. The burning program says the file format is not compatible or whatever. Can I make this work somehow? or are these midi files doomed to roam my computer forever.

You need a CD burning program that actually supports the transfer of midi files to a CD-R.
