View Full Version : Best Evans drumheads?
What Evans heads would you guys recommend for both batter and resonant? Right now I have a terrible G2 coated on my snare, awful factory resonant heads on every drum and a hydraulic batter head floor tom and a double ply coated on my high tom.
It has to be Evans 'cause that's all they sell around here...

Coated G1 over clear G1 over everything; snare, toms and bass!

Clear G1 over clear G1 on all toms. EQ3 bass (I think that's the head I'm thinking of) batter. Hazy 300 snareside, coated G1 snare batter. Powercenter heads are also good snare batters.
G1's will sound clearer and higher pitched than G2's, won't they?

Yeah. They will project more too.

Well a 1 ply head can be tuned lower than a 2ply and still provide resonace so in theory a 1 ply head is able to sound lower, I have found this but it is harder to find that sweet spot compared to a 2ply which is pretty much above wrinkles for a deep boom.
1 ply heads are more versitile as if your musical tastes change you will have to option to go for a higher pitch without it sounding, I don't how to put this but I find that when 2 ply heads are tuned up they don't sound natural if you get my drift.

Coated G2 over Clear G1 on Toms
Power Center or Super Tough over Hazy 300 on Snare
EMAD over EQ3 Reso on Bass
That's my head setup on my new kit. When I get it. :)
The G1 Coated heads will be more open and resonant, but like Ally said, the sweet spot is a little harder to find. The 2 plys also have a richer, warmer tone to them.

I like clear g2's over clear g1's toms, SK2 batter bass. Havnt decided on fav. snare heads yet, ask DBJ i think hes a huge fan of the one plys.

G1 coated over clear glass resos.
Do quality resonant heads make much of a difference? I mean here about every Evans drumskin is at least about 20$.

They will make a difference but if you don't have the cash, new batters will keep you happy for a good while till you have some spare cash lying around.

lol thanks, i read that and then realized it was the same as what i posted and was about to say pft but then i saw the 'it is done' part :D
So you don't need a different batter head for your snare? I mean if you had a 14" tom and a 14" snare you'd use the same batter head on them?

Not really. Just most people prefer a single coated ply head for snares. Where as many people go with 2 ply coated or clear on the toms.
The snare resonant head will make a big difference won't it?
Yup. Gotta make sure you get a SNARE SIDE resonant head for the snare side.
