I cleaned out my inbox today. He's the story about an email I found...
My friend has this 'friend' of his, and she seems to think she is hardcore punk. I told him to give me her email so I could talk to her. She could possibly be the stupidest person I've ever met.
Here's an email she sent me. It's one of many;
Hey, I'm not a dumb blonde anymore so don't ever ****ing call me one again!!! I'm an emo punk goth girl who wears black and has her nose pierced. I hate when people insult me for my hair colour and act like their better than me because I have a different opinion. I bought a lot of black clothes and got Cd's like The Used, Good Charlotte, HIM etc.
I'm wearing a BAD RELIGION top right now and am going to go get stoned for the first time on saturday so now you know that I'm punk and you cant change this.
If your going to insult me do it but now you cant pick on me for my tastes because I like the same bands as you and I'm a punk so a prep like you should be scared.
**** you from rachel
I'm not too sure if I'll get reprimanded for this, but GOD I thought it was hilarious.

She will grow up one day, just let her realize it. I'm sure flaming e-mails would just add fuel to the fire given her newly-found 'punk' mentality, she'll think, "if these people hate me, I must be doing something right, because us true punX are supposed to be hated LOL!"
I must admit though, that e-mail was hilarious. I always, ALWAYS get a good laugh when browsing through myspace and see "I like REAL PUNK MUSIC, like The Casualties, The Unseen, Cheap Sex, not that pussy punk s'hit like Good Charlotte or Green Day!" Also hilarious is the people who friend request me with "omFG, u like sum awesome bands, sweet jacket! Let's be friends hehe!" Long story short, Myspace.com is the perfect site to browse when looking for a good laugh.

But I've been middle aged since I was 7...
Who the f'uck cares.
Not a question. She'll go through her listening to s'hitty music, then she'll listen to 'underground' s'hitty music. Then she'll continue growing up and not associate or identify herself with the word 'punk' as its just a meaningless label given to a certain style of dress and music and used to sell children crap they don't need.
GEE I THINK I NEED A 20 DOLLAR STUDDED LEATHER BELT.
Honestly, why educate her or 'talk' to her? The type of music she listens to and the clothes she wears doesn't make her who she is. She probably just wants to fit into a certain group as the rest of you probably did or still want to today.

I have this strange feeling that punk (in the context of a certain person, not the music type) is a paradox. If 'punk' means someone who is themself and does not conform to what their society wants them to be or thinks they are, then anyone is a punk then conforms to being punk. Which means they are conformists. But what if they don't dress 'fashion punk'? What if they are still individuals, but wear plain clothes and don't stick out in a crowd, are they still punk? If they don't stick out and seem/act different (while still remaining individuals on the inside), then they are not classified as punks by their society, so they do not disconform(ie. dress to stick out). But because society thinks they are not punk, then from the society's point of view, they have conformed. Which means society will act as if they have conformed. I confused myself.

Anti-conformity is still conformity, so such a defintion for being 'punk' isn't valid.
But Sid said what I agree with, as usual, she is just trying to fit into a group like we all did at one time.

I have an idea in my head, but I'm not able to word it.
Same here, so I just bulls'hitted. Hahahaha.
I can understand why people use the term "punk" to describe who they are. Some people associate different meanings with the word. Some might think you stand for equality, peace, and whatever. Other people have a much more negative connotation with the word.
Personally I just don't like the word. I'm at an age that I don't need a word to connect myself with to be able to have some idea of indentity. When you're a young teenager and even in up into your 20's, you're still trying to figure out who you are, and it's completely acceptable.
Calling yourself a punk isn't the same as saying "I'm a musician" or "I'm a teacher." Those groups are very specific. The word punk comes along with all this extra stuff you might not necessarily stand for, like Christianity has or any other proclaimed lifestyle.
And like Christianity (or any faith), it makes you feel like you're not alone in the world. That's the biggest attraction to religion, in fact. You're working your way towards something. Some people just couldn't cope without that feeling.

"Hello, hello, hello, this is the Lord God, can you hear?
Hellfire and damnation's what I've got for you down there
On earth I have ambassadors, archbishop, vicar, pope
We'll blind you with morality, you'd best abandon any hope,
We're telling you you'd better pray cos you were born in sin
Right from the start we'll build a cell and then we'll lock you in
We sit in holy judgement condemning those that stray
We offer our forgiveness, but first we'll make you pay"

I have a horrible feeling that all this pressure to be more punXXX will turn her into a smack junkie and she'll start whoring herself off to large business owners and give them diseases in an effort to be punk and cool.

Thats no where close to the point I was trying to make. I'm quite aware of what religion does. I was talking about why people are attracted to it.
It's money anyway, which gives you power. Religion is terribly profitable, but the same could be said about punk. What a coincidence!

Yeah, it's okay. I'm not part of any organized religion either. I don't have a problem with people believing in something though. People don't like the unknown. Humanity is always trying to explain existence one way or the other.

Okay, I just e-mailed her, this is what I said.
You may no longer be blonde, but your certainly as ****ing dumb as ever.
Let's get one thing straight you wannabe bitch. Bragging about being punk, is one of the most un-punk things you could possibly do, that leaves only goth and emo. Goth is out the window too, as real goths are 7th Century German Barbarians. That leaves only emo, which is nothing to boast about.
As for those CDs you bought. Yeah, none of those bands are actually punk. Try checking out The Unseen, Minor Threat, or Dead Kennedys. No, on second thought, you should just stick with The Used.
That comment about getting stoned making you punk, wow I really don't know what to say. That's just more irrefutable proof that you're just a wannabe.
Go to hell.
Sincerely,
