Did Tama stop making these or something? I've always wanted one and they sell one around here for OR320 which = about $830. I'm not 100% sure but I think it's a Tama Rockstar, not a Tama Rockstar Custom.
Anyway I've saved up quite a bit of money, and I think if I chip in all my saved money, sell my old drumkit and chip in that money too, my parents might buy me it as a joint Christmas/birthday thingy.

Does anyone know how much these kits used to cost? I realize I will pay a price that is probably quite a lot higher than you guys in the United States and that's cool, but I really have no idea how much these kits are. It's a 5 piece by the way and included a high hat stand, iron cobra pedal (I think) and one or two cymbal stands.

Yes, Tama have stopped making Rockstars - not 100% sure when, the end of last year I think - can someone confirm?

I have a Rockstar standard, and I bought it new for £620 (I think) which included a decent Tama standard cymbal stand, Tama boom stand, Tama hi-hat stand, Paiste 101 hats, Paiste 101 16" crash, Paiste 101 17" crash/ride and a set of silencer pads.

I'm not sure how much it works out to in English pounds, but it sounds quite a lot for a used kit - however, if they thrown in the Iron Cobra pedal it may even it up a bit as they aren't cheap

It's new, not used. And it's a single iron cobra with no cymbals.

Oh and could some of you recommend some other good kits around that price range? Can't be much more expensive, though.

if it's new then the price doesn't sound too bad to me - i assumed it was used with Tama no longer making them. i guess the shop must have had it a while

i really like my rockstar, the snare sounds really good for the price - i have mine tight and it has a very impressive loud crack. the only thing i don't like is that it is wrapped and not lacquered

mapex seem to offer better kits for the same price (i.e. lacquered, and an additional tom i think), so they may be worth looking in to. but i don't think you'll be disappointed with the rockstar if you decide to go with it

good luck

I have a Tama Rockstar Custom. It's the same thing really, Customs are a bit mroe expensive though, i forget why. I got mine for £680 at christmas 2004. they stopped making them in 2005. they are really good kits for the price. You don't get an IC hi-hat stand unfortunatly, you have to do with the tama standard. And yes, the snare drums are nice, aswell as the Bass drums. If you chuck a pillow in the bass drum, then the sound is almost proffesional. I got a normal tama HP15 or something with my kit, i am getting a premier 6600 in a couple of weeks though....
I wouldn't know what to recommend really.

I believe it's because they're lacquered and not wrapped

What's 'wrapped' anyway?

it's just where the drums have a plastic finish wrapped around them as opposed to having the actual wood painted/lacquered

The Rockstar line was discontinued and replaced by the Superstar line. Both are great drums.

Ehh the new superstars are trash compared to the old TRUE superstars of old. Their basicly re-named rockstars.

There are alot better drums out there for the price.

Sounds to me like you need to buy some Sonor 3005's, I owned RockStars in the past and the 3005's are much nicer.

They also sell a Yamaha Stage Custom for pretty much the same price. I think I'd rather get the Tama Rockstar though.

And I'm sure there's better kits for the price but the different kits they sell around here is very limited.
