You probably won't believe me but I'm not influenced by any drummers. There is very little John Bonham influence... Well there was until I get smaller hats and the super strong bass doesn't go with it.
I guess the drummers I know most about and are my favorite are Peart, Bonham, Gadd, Weckl and just through 2 videos Jojo Mayer I can't find songs by him. Elvin Jones and Jo Jones are also favorites but I haven't heard enough for them to rub off on me

Drummers who have actually influenced my style are:
- Jojo Mayer - The single bass, the chops, the drum n bass.
- Adam Deitch - the Groooove! man!
- Danny Carey - come on, its Danny.
- Morgan Agren - The unique style, brilliant ideas.
- Kirk Covington - The smooth style, the sweet "blender" fills.
- Thomas Haake - Polymetric limb co-ordination, robot-tight.
Brilliant musicians.

Tony Williams is by far my biggest influence. Every thing I play is as if it was Tony. I study his drumming more than I study my books for all of my classes combined in the past 4 years. Dude, a bunch of us mentioned Tony...Bryan Blakey seems to have some sort of unhealthy obsession with him. ;) Speak of the devil, I was actually listening to ESP today. You know, Tony's contributions went alot further than blushdas or fills...the way that he represented time was incredibly unique.
Ahh good good.. see that's why I said, hopefully he was!
True enough as well, Tony's feel of time is awesome. Some of his stuff with Lifetime grooved so hard. Course that understanding of time is very much what allowed him to pull those very tony esque fills outta left field.

Early Influences
1. Lars Ulrich (Metallica) - If it wasn't for Lars Ulrich, I would have never picked up the sticks
2. Peter Criss (Kiss) - Very tight. He can pull off some nice grooves when given the chance
3. Neil Pert (Rush) - There is no explanation needed here. He is the reason why we have the bands/ drummers that we listen to today.
Modern Influences
4. Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) - Mike has influenced me to further tackle odd time signatures. I learned some of my hi- hat work from Mike Portnoy.
5. Martin Lopez (Opeth) - Opeth/ Martin Lopez are very influencial for me right now (as well as the above) I am very influenced by his grooves, odd time and hi- hat work. Alot of my drumming now consists of Mike Portnoy and Martin Lopez and my own styles of playing.
6. Thomas Haake (Meshuggsh) - Even though I can't play polyrhythms, I still attempt them (well I'm only fourteen so I'm sure I'm bound to tackle a few of them eventually!) I really dig the whole polyrhythm thing, you know. Thomas Haake is The Swedish Machine.
7. Daniel Sylvinjist (Katatonia) - I like this guy's fills. He's a very tight player and I think he deserves a lot more credit.
8. Raymond Herrera (Fear Factory) - Of course its because of his double kick skills.

3. Neil Pert (Rush) - There is no explanation needed here. He is the reason why we have the bands/ drummers that we listen to today.
Great Drummer, but seriously (I know I'm gonna get flamed by somebody for saying something even remotely close to negativity about Peart, even thought I'm not really saying anythin negative about him at all), how can you say "he is the reason we have the bands/drummers that we listen to today"?
I'll take the old saying and modify it: "Lets not give credit where credit is not due"

i am influenced by most all classic rock drummers. im not just gonna sit here and talk about bonham and peart; those guys were all great. the drummer for the jimi hendrix experience especially fascinates me.
Mitch Mitchell. Great player. :thumb:
